Any advice on what items to take on a school ski trip?

DS is off on the school ski trip. I am hoping I might be able to get some bits in the sales and on Ebay but I haven't been skiing in a long time and have no idea what to get and where from.
As his mother I think in terms of warmth - thermals and suchlike, he will be thinking about not looking like his mother has kitted him out and he is a boy who I struggle to get to wear coat to school in even the coldest of weather. He's not particularly sporty, has one pair of trainers and wears t-shirts and jeans most of the time - I would say there is barely anything he has now that would be suitable.
Any extra tips on what to buy and where I can get it from would be great. I will probably Ebay some or all after he has been. It doesn't have to be the cheapest on offer but it doesn't matter either way. I just want him to be well kitted out and not short on anything.
Thanks

If he is going on a school ski-ing trip, they may well have contacts with firs who hire out salopettes/ski jackets and helmets as well as the boots and skis. We used the services of such a company the first time No 1 son went ski-ing.
Otherwise, I suggest Decathlon or Go Outdoors or Mountain Warehouse.0 -
Do you know what items they will be hiring once there? Did the school give you a list of "essentials" maybe?
I'd get him a couple of thermal tshirts, long johns, a pair of waterproof ski gloves, a beanie hat. Waterproof trousers and a ski jacket, you should be able to find on Ebay easily (and sell them again afterwards), as well as snow boots. A pair of sunglasses.
Don't forget the sunscreen!0 -
Please don't forget ordinary gloves. When I went on my school ski trip to Bulgaria (20 years ago !!) a lot of my friends had brought the padded gloves for sking, but forgot the normal gloves for just going out during the day or night and ended up having to use their bulky ones for the entire trip.;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)0

The trip isn't until april, school have been notoriously poor about communication with regards to trips in the past, I had this last year too but it's good advice I can check up with them about - thank you.
Max - sunscreen is perfect advice. It would have occurred to me in the end but he is a boy who hates wearing it so I have months of being able to relay the importance of him putting it on!
Caroline - Thanks, that's just why I thought I'd ask here because I knew I'd get lots of practical tips. That's brilliant advice that I wouldn't have thought of.0 -
Where are they going?0

It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
TK Maxx does a huge range of ski wear at relatively cheap prices - most of it is very fashionable and good brands too.
Some bits online, but much more instore.

Do you have an Aldi near you? They have a full range of ski gear and thermals in the one near me.0

Leg and back muscle. Check the ski sites & encourage him to do the basics "sitting against the wall" & so on. Start now & aim to build up so that no matter what he's wearing, he's got the muscle (&/or tolerance of pain) to really enjoy skiing!
Half an hour on a dry slope will be enough to get a clue as to where it will hurt - so practice, practice, practice... And have a wonderful time!0
