Lots on the forum about this already.
I've had both oil and lpg.
Frankly LPG has got to be the most expensive, complicated and inflexible way to heat your home. I'd rather use plugin electric rads round the house.
Oil every time over lpg.

Every comparison of heating cost I've ever seen says that LPG is the most expensive, and with LPG you are usually tied to a particular supplier for cylinder rental hire, whereas with oil you can shop around easily. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.

Depends on how large and poorly insulated your home is. We have used 700 litres in 13 months in our 6 bed, but it's well insulated and our 10kw wood burner is on constantly.
It's expensive yes, but love cooking on gas instead of having to use electric hobs any day.0 -
Oil 5.8p per kWh compared to LPG 6.5p per kWh. So LPG is about 12% more.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Poor insulation = greater fuel use and/or colder home, irrespective of the type of fuel used!
As for cooking, yes some people prefer gas, but the OP asked about central heating costs. Presumably he already knows which fuel he prefers for cooking....
OP - I can't give specific price difference, but everything I've read / heard indicates oil is cheaper. And easier. And makes shopping around possible (at least until all the suppliers get bought up by one big monopolistic oil supplier...... not quite there yet....0 -
Heating vs cooking on LPG
Our hob is the only thing connected to our bulk LPG tank, should last another <= 20 years without a fill
When the gas CH boiler was connected to the bulk tank it would empty in two months...
To favour LPG over oild for the sake of cooking is a false ecomomy unless you are loaded and simply don't care about the cost.

Oil every time, if for no other reason than the ability to shop around at each fill, rather than being tied to the company that you rent the tank from. I just filled up with oil last week, phoned half a dozen local suppliers, the difference between the cheapest and most expensive was 6ppl, which is a big difference on 1000 l.0

Go for oil. If you want a gas hob use small gas bottles where you aren't tied into a contract.0

I know its an old thread, but i just fitted a boiler for my new central heating system & the boiler cost me £702.00 to buy in comparison to nearly £1500.00 for the oil equivalent. Wile we have a JCB on site we ordered a 2400lt underground tank that cost £407-00 from Avanti gas & will hold 2000lt allowing for expansion. including the pipe to the house.
A 1900lt oil tank is around £1500-00 plus the piping & fitting(lets say another £300.00 min).
So! so far the gas cost £1109.00 & the oil £3300.00 a difference of £2191.00 of free gas.
For me, that's around 3-4 years worth.
I also get the advantage of gas cooking & just a small manhole cover to look at.
I do also have to pay a rental of around £110 per year, but this also covers my tank.0 -
Also no one can nick your gas ..........0
