Looking for a basic budget laptop for inlaws.
They would only be using the laptop for emails, news (browsing), printing and saving to their external usb hard drive (stored photos).
Ideally we would like to spend £200 but can push to £250 if possible.
Any suggestions pls?
Would like a new laptop with at least a year guarantee in case anything was to go wrong.

You probably need to get refurb.
I haven't seen new under 250.

Would a netbook do in place of a laptop? It's all I use for what you describe.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

You can get a refurbed option for up to £50 less, with the same warranty.0 -
I wouldn't buy a used laptop, and netbooks are a bit limited. But £250 isn't quite enough. Add another £30 and you may be able to pick up a new laptop, but you'd have to shop around.
Two Lenovos bought over the last year or two have been great and prices are good. If you could get some kind of discount (one I got an eBay discount for, and cost just over £300, the other was £280 including £10 discount via a cash back site) you might get the price down to being affordable.
Actually I will see if I can find the seller who sold me the last one, as they may still have some good deals.0 -
It was Laptops Direct. They have a Lenovo at £305, but you can get £15 off with a £1 trial with Which? magazine. So works out to £290 with free delivery.
That's just after two minutes looking, but I think you get the idea.

Always search for voucher codes before you buy. That applies to other items as well.0 -
Not sure if this one is any good, though it's cheap enough @ £265 (with discount):

In what way, given that all the OP wants to do is:emails, news (browsing), printing and saving to their external usb hard drive (stored photos).
Though looking at the various online shops, netbooks do appear harder to come by now - I suspect they've been replaced in the public's demand by tablets.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Things like online movie streaming may not be a consideration at the moment, nor the lack of a DVD drive, but it's probably still worth having those options. Plus a larger screen and keyboard might be better. Or as you say, a netbook might do the job.0
