Mark Group - complicated...

I asked mark Group to give us a quote for cavity wall and loft, for a new extension, they came to the house when I was out spoke to my husband who was busy with the electrician and plumber. The guy quoted £475 for just the CWI my husband said you charged us that to do the whole house wall and loft last time and declined his quote he was then asked to sign the quote - as the assessor would have no proof that he had actually been to the house, which he did.
On returning home I read the estimate and see where he has signed says he had agreed to the work being carried out. I phoned mark group - did not take the person's name (stupidly) who I spoke to and said I thought it was underhand of their assessor to ask for him to sign to state he had been to the house, when in fact he was signing to state he agreed to the estimate.
Consequently I had another firm out for a quote they quoted just a few pounds more to do both the CWI and loft, I accepted their quote and agreed a date, however they said if they could get me a cancellation date they would call.
We heard nothing further from Mark Group. However the company who came out to do the quote - subcontracted the job to a company called instafoam, and had a letter can date from the other company. I had a call to state that they could do an earlier date than they had advised in their letter and I agreed to a Friday as this was my only day off.
So I was perplexed when I arrived home to my husband telling me that the company doing the CWI had called to say they were coming on Thursday not Friday! And that he would have to take a day off work...
I arrived home for lunch on the thur to find a MARK GROUP van in our drive, I ran indoors and said to my husband I hope they have only just arrived, to be told no they had done the CWI I then said Oh god they are the company who want to charge £475 just for the walls................
He had signed a payment collection form therein it states: No payment given, to be given when the CWI and loft are completed... The fitter even told my husband that it would be another team, even though they had never quoted us for the loft - therefore no one would ever be coming to do that work!
I rang MG that lunchtime and spoke to mel in customer services explaining what had happened - was told that the area manager would call us, no call - no contact from this person ever came.
I then received a bill. I wrote to MG - sent tracked signed for. The letter was never received and had proof from the PO website, had the receipt and tracking No. I phoned them, and emailed over the letter, was told by their accounts dept that it would be sorted. Received a letter from the area manager, who just said sorry I never contacted you... blah blah blah, but you need to pay our bill.
Whilst I understand that my husband mistakenly allowed the wrong company to carry out the work, and I have stipulated this quite clearly to them in my letter, I understand and am more than happy to pay them what I had agreed to pay Instafoam - I suppose that we were lucky not to have been given a bill from them for breech of contract, and I had to phone them on the day of installation to advise what had happened.
The confusion arose out of me telling my husband that the company who came to give us the quote were not the company who would be doing the job. The payment collection form has my name on it, not my husbands, I requested the estimate, could i argue that I never signed anything? At the end of the day I am happy to pay what I have been quoted by the other company not what Mark group quoted we could not afford that... That is why it was declined. Any advice would be grateful.
Thanks:mad:

Can you use paragraphs and spacing to make it easier to read please.0

It seems that someone in your house is a bit signature pen happy. It may have been underhand of the first surveyor to get a signature but the truth is you were aware you had got and unresolved/uncancelled contract going on so to enter into ANOTHER contract was always going to end in tears.
Being aware there were two contractors ready to do the work should have meant EXTRA vigilance when contractors turned up.
I wouldn't be two confident in your being successful in your claim that you signed the contract in error and let the contractor in in error and getting any sort of redress.

My husband only signed because the guy said if he did not sign he would not get paid for the estimate... I think that he has learnt his lesson.0
