Dell Inspiron 1525 - Touchpad broken

Hello guys
I rescued my old Dell from my boyfriends house last weekend where it had been sat for a good year... Before that he used it for a year and I had it for uni three years prior to that. It was bought in May 2008 as an 18th birthday present for me and is - apart from the touchpad, the battery not being recognised as it's not an official Dell one, and needing updating software wise - in absolutely fine condition.
So I want to start using it again rather than buy a whole new laptop as my current one is physically falling apart. I can cope with the software being dodgy and it needing to be plugged in constantly, but the touchpad is a right PITA! The left click button spring has gone completely and the scroll bars are worn away - there's also a 1.5 inch round patch in the middle where it's been worn away through nearly 5 years of use. I know that Dells are somewhat tricky to replace bits for but is there any hope that I could get a new touchpad installed? Using a mouse is a bit of a tricky option because I don't have a set desk and tend to use my laptop either on my lap or on a little table if I'm watching movies.

and here's how you do it:

There is one for sale on Ebay starting at £20 + £5 postage. If you buy from USA you will probably be charged import duties.
