Having got my bank charges back from Alliance & Leicester within 10 days of them receiving my court papers. I now this morning got a letter from Nationwide informing me they have credited my account with the FULL amount & interest! This is the day after they had to reply on my court papers. :j :j :j
Keep going people! I've learnt my lesson though I'll not be incurring anymore if I can help it :money:

expect the A & L to close your account within the next few weeks, thats what they did to me !0

I got a refusal from A+L, and am going to threaten to take court action - did you actually submit all your court details thru the ni courts system and is it simple to do as you are claiming against an English based bank?0

Yeah I sent them the court papers, I done it all online, very easy.
You can do it through the english courts if you want but I didnt know until after, the NI courts just send you a letter you've to sign saying that if you wish to enforce a decree you'll have to do it in England and your signing to proceed in this jurisdiction.
On my NIcourts account it shows the small claim pack being sent to A&L 21th May, the cheque I received was dated 29th May and I received it in the post 02nd June.
I'd say go for it though and theres plenty of help from me and others on the site here if you need it

Hi Cathy,
Congratulations!
Was hoping u could help me out with mine, i went through small claims on-line on 5th June, says small claims pk sent 7th June and they have until the 9th July to respond. (It's against Abbey or should i say Snabbey!) Anyway, if i click on the progress case, it lists a Covering Letter and a Letter of settlement and beside them it says process, is this if they offer me the money? or should i be clicking on them now? Sorry if i sound dumb, but really want to do it right!
PS I've also claimed against Northern Bank for £750, received £500, all done and dusted with 3weeks - why can't they all be that simple!?

Fab! A post I can be part of! I'm a new member and have just started to come out of my debt encrusted shell...my letter contesting charges went off to the bank this afternoon and I've just opened a new bank account - presume that's a good idea since the banks appear to be closing people's accounts down!
My questions? Is it legal to close the account down? What if someone has a horrendous overdraft?

Hi
No dont click on them, thats only if they're offering you all your money and your settling. It will say Application for default judgement in a few days and thats the one you want to click on, but if your like me and it's all taking a bit too long just call them, I used this number 90724566. You can go in and look at those letters in progress case area, just be so careful not to tick the box and proceed with it.
As a matter of interest why did you settle for £500 if you where charged £750?
Dont worry about sounding dumb, I was on this site 2 years before I posted and I still cant search and get the info I want from threads so I end up just bulling on and learning through my mistakes.

Hi Sarah
Yes it is legal for them to close your account regardless of overdrafts or not. Have you looked at the debt free wanabe board and the bank charges one, they're really great but fast moving, I usually go to page 3 and work up to the most recent.
Neither of my bank accounts have been closed thus far but I'll maybe open another just to be on the safe side, you never know how these things are going to go
Goodluck

Hi Cathy,
Thanks for replying, and im glad i never clicked!
I settled for the £500 instead of the £750, mainly because of the trouble im haveing with snabbey but also, the way i looked at it was - although i was £250 short, i was still £500 better off!!0
