can anyone recommend a good brand of dvd r

anyone recommend a good brand of dvd-r please? i have been using budget to burn my family films (i mean OF my family ,events etc from the video camera NOT commercial films!), but i am finding only 1 in 5 works sucessfully as there seems to be weird pixelling or breaking up of the picture on playback (i read somewhere this could be due to bad media?)

also, how do i find out the brand of my dvd recorder and how do i keep the firmware up to date.

thanks in advance

I use to prefer Ritek G04 dye but they started getting problematic, been using them for almost 3 years. I now use Datawrite printables full face from SVP. I also use Verbatiums dvd+rw discs for Pioneer 109, Sony DRU500a and Liteon 5006 dvd recorder.

Do you think thats what it could be, that i'm using pants discs? (ie cheapo ones off ebay!), do i maybe need to burn at a slower speed?

sorry can someone also tell me the difference between dvd-r and dvd/+? my drive apparently does both...

I also make sure discs are verified once writen and stored in proper cd/dvd large case store about 240 discs. If you value your data that its worth paying that bit more.

+r is less compatable than -r for dvd players. However +rw discs are quicker to format and close the discs than -rw discs I use +rw dics for writeables.

Yeah, Verbatim DVD-'s are my favourite. I've played around with quite a few brands, but these are by far the least error prone, and are very compatible.

Used to use Datawrite but now I don't look past the Ritek G05's - no coasters yet.

This guide is good for choosing media.

I'm a Ritek G04 fan, never made a coaster and all discs are 100% readable too.

TaiyoYuden atre supposed to be a favourite too.
