Fox poo

So Captain Dumbass discovered the joys of fox poo tonight. I took my eyes off him for 30 seconds to clear up his poo and when I turned around he'd disappeared into the trees and when he came out it was all over him. I've given him a bath, 2 washes with dog shampoo, some ketchup and conditioner. Anything else needed? He's still wet and my nose and eyes are still streaming from the stench so I don't know how bad he smells.

DH is furious and was shouting at him so I separated them and DH is now upstairs sulking while CD is looking at me reproachfully from the floor.

Not quite the way I wanted to spend Saturday night.

oh dear - hope the ketchup worked - but I thought it was tomato juice you used with skunk spray? still if it works on that - then hopefully it will work on fox poo!
dry him off and go have a nice bath/shower yourself! your nose should have 'reset' by then and you will tell if he still 'pongs'!

I've towel dried him and he's on his blanket on the floor. No couch cuddles for him tonight.

The Company of Animals have just brought out a spray for fox poo, it's called Foxy
  • I always thought that fox poo was the worst smelling thing a dog could roll in, until Truffle found a rotten seagull :eek::eek:

Tomato ketchup is normally what's recommended on the spaniel forum I'm on, how did you use it, did you rub it into his fur before wetting him?
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!

No, we used it after we rinsed the worst of the poop off. He'd had a proper roll in it so it was all over his side and collar and I wasn't touching it. He smells ok today, I think. He ended up getting on the couch for cuddles when he was dry last night because we can't resist his little sad face.

And now he needs a new collar again. Sigh.

Its a bit weird. He's never rolled in fox poo before even though there must be quite a bit of it around. His dog walker told me on Friday that they'd come face to face with a massive fox, and then 2 days later he rolls in another fox's poo.

Or maybe it was just like the cow pat incident and it was just there, fresh and far too tempting.

Code, I've been through this many times,
Can you not soak the collar in some hot water with a bit of bio detergent in. ? Then scrub and rinse like crazy. It always works for us even on leather though it may take some time to dry. Worth a go.on second thoughts a spare collar to put on while the first one dries is a good idea as your like munchkin in will no doubt roll in the unmentionable again!

yes you can wash leather collars - had to many a time esp with my staffy who liked nothing better than good roll in horse poo!
When it dries it stiffens up - but if you have leather polish wipes you can use them to soften it again, saddle soap is good and Vaseline is really really good at softening the leather again.

Bailie's a prolific roller in anything that stinks. She's got 4 spare collars! I've even put her id tag on a spring clip thingy so I can move it from one stinky collar to the next clean one with as little fuss (and handling of the offending gunk) as possible.
