Cooking with gas has many benefits. Its cheaper as it is a primary fuel, also as a cooker is a flueless appliance, you benefit from 100% efficiency and all the heat is retained and distributed throughout your home ! When baking, the water vapour released into the oven could be said to be beneficial to the process.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

isn't boiling an electric kettle cheaper than boiling a gas top stove one? it's more efficient.
A few years back I did an experiment on that, as I had both an electric kettle and a gas stove with a kettle. I boiled the same amount of water (1.25l) on each and measured the kWh required.
    Electric: 0.123kWh in 3min 41sec. Cost 1.04p
    Gas: 0.381 kWh in 7min 1sec. Cost 0.97p

So electric was a tiny bit more expensive but so much faster. We just use the electric kettle now. :)

    Back to the OP though...
You could consider getting a halogen oven. I've been impressed with ours. I find we set the temperature dial at 25% below what the recipe says and also reduce the time by 25%. You can cook meat joints or a whole chicken in it. I haven't done any experiments on it yet ;), but reckon it will be cheaper to run than the electric oven as it is heating a much smaller space. It's more versatile than a regular microwave as well.

good experiment, was nearly tempted to buy a stove top kettle then as they are cool but the 7 minutes has changed my mind

    And more convenient.

Undoubtedly. But that wasn't the question that was asked.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
