My company are making redundancies my job role is not going but they have added extra work and now opened it up for anyone to apply is this allowed

how long you worked there? Is it comparable to the jobs going?

Is the "extra work" currently in the job description of any person at risk?

Check on "bumping". It could well be allowed here.
