M1 Camera Flashes (Derby-Nottingham Stretch)

Hi,
Last night me and my mum was on the M1 Northbound whereby we were paying attention to the speed notifications (there had been an incident and so stop-start ish traffic)
To start with (first 6-8 gantries) there was no speed limit so cruise control was on 75
From around gantry 8 the speed was reduced to anywhere between 40-60 depending on traffic with it sometimes coming to a standstill. On each one, the cruise was being adjusted accordingly
So having set-off again we go through a few gantries with 60 above them and see one with '50' so the speed was reduced accordingly prior to going through the gantry... It flashes twice (unless we were mistaken by two bright flashes)!
Now if we had actually been speeding it wouldn't be a problem and I guess my mum would just accept it, but I'm quite frustrated that it would of been rarely possibly to speed with the level of traffic last night and attention had been paid all the way through and don't want a fine/points to come through for her
Has anyone had such an experience with these cameras and if so what happened?

What speed do you reckon that you going, when you passed the 50 sign?If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

I'm pretty confident of 50. I remember at the time we thought !!!!!! as we were going at the speed limit and began to think 'are they really average cameras'
I duno0 -
Could it have been a driver behind you who got flashed , or maybe a car in the other lanes?0

I don't think so, we were ahead of the traffic around us
Oh well, I posted this to understand if others had the same experience so guess I'd just have to wait the x number of days and see if a notice of intent comes through

Average speed cameras don't flash. They don't "take a photo" - they record a constant stream of video, which is then processed by computer to "read" number plates and compare the time each vehicle passes <points> that gantry and the time the same vehicle passes <points> that gantry.
Which stretch of M1?0 -
They weren't average, it was between East Midlands and the A38, the gantry cam's. It's just at the time we thought they could of been as we were almost certainly doing the speed limit
Unless of course the speed limit changed to 40 just as we went under it which would be incredibly harsh!0 -

IIRC there's always a time delay between a limit reduction and the cameras being changed.0 -
Thought so, but I cannot think of any explanation for this really. Oh well0
