Sainsbury charged twice

Got home yesterday after shopping to find I had been charged twice for two separate items in Sainsbury's. Does anyone know if there is any chance of a refund when I go back next week? I cant prove I didn't have two of the items but it is annoying to the tune of £2.50

Are they consecutive items on the receipt? If so, then it could be the scanner reading the barcode twice.

I've had this happen (albeit in ASDA & Tesco) and the staff on the CS desk refunded it.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

Yes, I was charged twice for some beer. I just took the receipt in the next day and was refunded. No problems.

When I was overcharged once I rang Sainsbury's and they refunded the amount to my Nectar card, so I didn't have to go back to the store.

Thanks for the replies. They were consecutive on the receipt. I will try for arefund next week.
  • We had the same thing happen a few weeks ago with Lidl, had one pack of kitchen towels and got charged twice.

Went back a few days later showed the receipt to the manager who refunded the debit card are gave us another pack of kitchen towels as an apology!!

Thats what I call good customer service..well done Lidl.

The same happened to me a few weeks ago at Sainsbury's. Not only was I out of pocket, but the amount on my brand match coupon was adversely affected by a product being scanned three times rather than twice.

I emailed them via the "contact us" page on their website basically saying how p***ed off I was at the incompetence of their cashier. Provided receipt details and suggested they get the store to view CCTV footage of the transaction if they didn't believe me.

I was refunded both the overcharge and loss of brand match via Nectar points within a few days.

    Sainsbos are generally v reasonable.

Happened to me in a M&S some years ago - was buying undies in bulk - but they were fine about it. (They knew the scanner was dodgy, mind).

It's happened to me several times at Sainsburys, so now I always quickly check my receipt before leaving the car park. Problems are often caused by round items which roll about as they're being scanned so register twice. Some cashiers spot the mistakes as they're going through, some don't. Last week, I was charged 4 times for one mango! Never a problem getting a refund though.
