Poor video quality when streaming

I've got an HP laptop (dm1 4004) and am convinced the video quality when streaming is getting worse. The video and audio often stutters/jumps.

I'd say this was just due to the laptop not being powerful enough, or my connection being too slow. However, I don't think that's the case:
- My connection is ~14mb which should be more than enough. On my desktop pc it streams fine. It still judders even if wired.
- The laptop plays HD video perfectly fine if the content is local on the machine, so I don't think it's due to a lack of grunt

Other points:
- The result is the same if using IE, firefox or chrome
- Browsers and flash player are all up to date
- The result is the same regardless of the quality of the video - it still struggles at 240p
- CCleaner has been used to clear out any temporary files, cookies etc

Any ideas on what could be going on?

No help but I suffer this problem on my main pc. I installed an old version of flash (version 11.1.102.63) and it works perfectly now (but keeps warning me how vulnerable I am lol)

I had the same thing on an old laptop, what used to stream became stuttery. Upgraded to a much newer laptop (a used one off Ebay this is MSE after all...) and all is well again.

I've got an HP Compaq, 4gb ram, dual processor and fibre optic bb. I've been streaming Game of Thrones but the quality wasn't too good so I downloaded them using RealPlayer download plugin and the quality is good. I'm not sure if you can improve quality of streamed material.
