By not being told as to whether the engine is a petrol or diesel and not knowing whether the car is on extended or fixed service intervals will have a marked affect on the validity of any answers.

The important thing is that oil meets the correct VW standard. I should think that an oil that meets VW 507.00 in 5W30 grade should suffice as well as it being for extended service intervals it will be a low ash oil suitable for diesel engines with a particulate filter. On the other hand if it's a petrol engine on fixed service intervals a VW507.00 oil may be overkill.

From what i have been led to believe.

Toyota branded engine oils used to be Castrol.

    As was Ford branded oil.

Fuchs make very good oil and they were the default option for those in the Veedub scene for many years.

VW Quantum oil is made by Castrol but has a few extra additives in it. I used Fuchs Titan oil for several years & I was perfectly happy with it. I only stopped using it because GSF no longer stock it. Nowadays, I buy my engine oil on Ebay in batches of 3 or 4 bottles at a time.

If you know the exact spec of the oil you need, then check the print on the bottles.

For myself I need an oil which is LL04 rated - the brand is really immaterial.

But check the shelves of Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury etc.

You may well get a surprise. I found Cstrol Edge in Asda at the same price as their own brand!

Not always though - so I just buy a few when I see it reduced.

I think supplied by Mobil now as is Honda's factory fill.
I just go to a Toyota dealer and ask for 5 litre of engine oil for my specific car (and how much it costs!)
