Cat dental - has anyone claimed with Pet Plan?

Looks like Teddy (just over 7yo) and Fred (3.5 yo) both needs dental check up and possibly cleaning (Fred) and cleaning and maybe extractions (Teddy).

Both insured wih Petplan which I understand covers dental but I heard sometimes they pay and sometimes not.

Has anyone claimed for dental treatment in cats while having them insured with PetPlan please?

Experience of claiming?

Will be taking them early january so need to prepare....

Thanks a lot

  • Ohhh poor loves

    I had a quick look & their T&Cs say

    Exclusions:

"the cost of dental treatment unless your pet had a dental examination carried out by a vet in the 12 months before the clinical signs of the injury or illness were first noted"

So - providing they've had their check-ups at booster time & their teeth have been OK & not requiring treatment that hasn't been done (ie cleaning), it may be OK

However, if the work has come up at the yearly exam then it's unlikely to be covered:

"you must arrange and pay for your pet to have a yearly dental exam and any treatment normally recommended by a vet to prevent an injury or illness. Any treatment recommended as a result of the dental exam must be carried out as soon as possible. If you do not keep to this condition, any claims which relate to it will not be covered under the policy".

Only way to be sure really would be to call :(

Thanks - all my cats her dental check with boosters in Feb '13 but at a different vet than the one I want to take them for dental.

They get boosters done wherever there is an offer but for a treatment I would like to take them to my regular vets so this may be an issue for the insurance.

Starting price is £250.00 for basic scale and polish and then goes up of course. Looks like will have to pay myself then...
  • mmmm don't know if it would be covered then :(

£250 is actually quite a reasonable starting price - I can't remember if it was Smudge or Ben that was needing theirs done & it was over £400 - and that's years ago!

My 18 year old had a dental a few weeks back, 1st ever and he's not insured. My vet quoted 350 however did say if I joined the healthy pet club which cost 9.99 a month it would only cot 170. So I opted to join the healthy pet club which also means I get 10% off my monthly check ups and his regular medication.

We couldn't claim on ours as it was classed as a pre-existing medical condition (he had had To have some extractions when he was with RSPCA before we adopted him). last year he had to have scale and polish and further extraction. Cost £340 and that was with the 10% discount as being members of the healthy pet club.

That's really strange that you only got 10% off the dental and I got 50% off with it being the same organisation. Maybe they ave changed it recently. Their website only advertises it as reduced priced dental treatments, so maybe the discount fluctuates.
