Yes, a gas cooker is included.

Do you have a valid gas safety certificate (ie issued within last 12months)? If so, the landlord has complied.

A failed ignition switch would not invalidate a certificate I don't believe.

Only gasSafe registered engineers can work on gas, but again, I believe (may be wrong) that unplugging the ignition would not constitute 'working on gas'.

So this is a repairing issue rather than a gas safety issue.

And whether the landlord has an obligation to repair is debatable since the cooker still works (albeit with a lighter not an automatic ignition).

They gave your lighter. You don't even need to buy a box of matches! What is the problem?

Your cooker may fail GS check depending on what all the issues are, a hob in one of my properties failed because one igniter had stopped working and as no spare parts were available I replaced the hob.

I thought gas hobs now had to have one of those automatic ignition switches so you couldn't (either accidentally or on purpose) switch on the gas without lighting it, thereby potentially gassing everyone or causing an explosion. I'm sure someone will put me right if I've got that wrong.

They have a flame safety device which shuts off the gas if the flame is not ignited or if the flame gets blow out. That is a separate to the ignition.
