Christmas Eve Sit down meal for 12 - ideas

Options
Hi,

I have 12 people coming to visit on Christmas Eve.

I was planning to do a buffet however my husband said he'd rather had a proper sit down meal and something traditional. He'd like pheasant but I think I'd need 4 to feed that many people.

Any ideas what I could serve?

Thanks in advance!

What about some sort of soup, salmon and a trio of desserts like black forest gateau, lemon cheesecake and profiteroles? Not a roast cos most people will be having that the next day!

I'm doing leek and potato soup for my starter.

What about Steaks? You could do Dauphinoise potatoes, some asparagus and flat mushrooms.

I'm doing something similar on Christmas Eve, as I really didn't fancy cooking two Christmas Dinners in succession.

A ham? Can't think of what you'd do with it that wouldn't be too much like another roast though.
  • Curry or chilli :)
  • Traditional is good, but people won't want anything heavy on Christmas Eve.

I like to do fish then. Salmon is nice, or I might do fish pie. Both could be done in advance, which would be easier for you. Soup wouldn't fit with fish pie though, too similar.

Gammon in cola! I'm doing this on the 23rd as we have a houseful. I'll serve it with potato croquettes (from Lidl), cauliflower cheese and green beans. I have a box of chocolates for everyone to share for pud.

I'm voting for fish pie...or salmon.

I was going to do chicken fillets with stilton and cranberry filling wrapped in ham....but i'm now thinking that this will be two heavy meals in a row and fish may be a much better idea.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • A casserole is good for that many people as you can make it in advance & just dish up with some form of potatoes. Maybe you could do a game casserole/stew; Waitrose do game meat packs, I think, which are diced meat. And hubby would get his pheasant.

A joint of ham and dauphinoise potatoes which can both sit in oven happily or a cottage pie which can have the mince and mash prepared in advance.
