streaming tv music

Ok everyone, I am still on the hunt for my teenage daughters Christmas present. I was originally thinking of something she could record programmes on and lots of lovely replies brought me to the Humax at a very good price which was sold out when I went to purchase it. Now I am thinking some sort of streaming gizmo might be more suitable especially if you could stream music and tv, So contenders so far are apple tv, roku 3 and sonos.
Currys are doing sonos play1 with free bridge for £169 - does this only do music or can it do tv? Is this all I would need or do you have to buy more kit (she has an android phone)
Roku 3 is only £99 and seems to do tv and music but not sure if it reliable
Apple tv - do you need an iphone for this and does it do TV
There is also squeezebox and a philips streaming gadget but not quite getting what they are
Finally for all the content, how much would be free and how much do you pay for a subscription to a streaming website.
Sorry folks as I know I have asked for a lot of advice but as time is pressing on and I cannot get my head around all of these gadgets, I thought there might be some one who is such a whizz they could just point me in the right direction
:rotfl::T:rotfl::T:rotfl:
p.s. I should mention she already has an ipod nano and I do have lots of Tesco points so I could get her an ipod touch if that was needed to go with the apple tv

Sonos play 1 - it's a speaker. There's nothing to view TV with. It can stream music, or play music contained on devices on the same network, but it is only audio.
Apple TV is a box which plugs into a TV and allows you to stream some TV channels along with your itunes, etc.
Roku3 - I don't know it, but this might help: http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/video-streamers/roku-3-review-50012422/1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
How about a NowTV box - only £10 which has many streaming radio channels (which I only found out about after I bought it) as well as BBC iPlayer and 4od. For an extra £5 you could include a Sky Sports day pass or for £15 Sky movies.0

Hi Snugster - I am in Northumberland too;)
So I looked up Now TV and found the review on it which basically said it was a no brainer for a tenner. So I signed up for it and after I had placed my order, it came up at the end that I had to have a sky account to make it work and I could sign up for a months free trial. So my question is now, have I just wasted a tenner as at the end of the free trial I am not going to pay 34 quid a month for my daughters tv streaming. Think they should have pointed this out at the beginning of the transaction or have missed something?Smile though your bank is breaking:)0 -

The NowTV box from Sky is actually a Roku with a crippled firmware, flash it with a Roku firmware and you will get full functionality back and will have saved £20 in to the bargain.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -

Have you found a way to do this? Please link to a valid firmware.0 -
No, don't worry, you have to set up an account with Sky but you don't have to pay anything/subscribe or incur any future costs.Hi Snugster - I am in Northumberland too;)

The Now TV box set up is fairly self explainatory, you will have add the music streaming which has many many channels featuring all different genres of music but again this is straightforward and at no further cost. It's the best £10 I've spent this year. Any further questions just ask.0 -
Thanks, tbh was faffing around because firstly I was thinking it might be a bit iffy and secondly it may not arrive before Christmas but now I think I will just stick with it on your recommendation and just give her money. At least then if it doesn't turn out to suit as much as I think it will, she can go and buy a pvr or sonos or whatever she chooses. Thanks for everyone else who commented, I can now go and relax with a glass of wine. :jSmile though your bank is breaking:)0
