Was wondering what's a good HPI check service that's not overly expensive and provides a decent level of checks?
I rememebr when I bougtb my car I got ripped off by purchasing 5 different hpi checks for >£20. Completely pointless and then weeks later I discovered that I could get them for £3 each!
Since I'm the "IT guy" in the family it's automatically become my responsibility to find a good value HPI check service for my brother. Because everyone seems to turn to me for anything random computer related. I get people phoning me randomly and ask what's a good HTC phone to get.. I've never even touched or can even recall what a HTC phone is.

Only good ones are the ones backed by an insurance guarantee. The £3 text checks are worthless.0

Yeah you want to knock that on the head. I became 24x7 IT support for my entire family circle - usually from people who I wouldnt otherwise see. Saturday nights, in work, etc. Very annoying.
You need to "not be able to fix" a couple, or "i've no experience with those" one or two and slowly back out of the situation.0 -
Ok I get it, but any actual recommendations?
The insured hpi checks cost £30 for 5 checks or £20 for 1 check.
Seems a bloody rip off.0 -
What sort of car are you wanting to HPI check?
If it's a £500 runaround I wouldn't bother as long as you buy it from the address on the V5C. And it's not needed if you buy from a legit dealer/trader as they are liable if anything comes of it. Plus they would have already checked anyway to cover themselves.0 -

Cars probably valued around 6 grand (not 100% sure). Sounds likea Private sale of a mate - but you can't really be sure. The mate bought the car to flip so it's important to check otherwise you're 6 grand in the hole and ruined friendship.0 -
Cheapest check is FREE. Flip a coin. Probably better odds of getting it right than the cheapy services that offer a CHECK not a proper HPI.
£20 to make sure the car your buying is actually going to be yours when you pay for it. Sounds like a bargain to me.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Will it be such a rip off when you find out that £6K car you bought is subject to a "log book loan" and it gets taken from you leaving you £6K down?Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0
