Amazon refunds if price has dropped

I'd noticed in another post someone saying that they had an email from Amazon with a refund as they felt they had paid too much. First I've heard of them doing that! I was looking at my recent orders and noticed the xbox game I ordered for DS for Christmas at £34.99 was now £19.99! I could have re-ordered and returned with a £2 odds collect plus charge but emailed Amazon to ask if they would refund the difference and they did!! They agreed there was a dramatic difference in price.

It's worth checking your orders and seeing if anything has dropped in price and if you don't ask you don't get :D

Yes if the price has dropped between when I order and receiving the item (if sold by Amazon) then I will email to tell them and they always refund the difference.

  • I ordered it around 21 November so I had already received the game so I thought they would probably say no.

Yes always worth asking - and telling them you'll return the dearer one if they don't agree and will re-order!

  • Thanks for this, it's really handy to know as this had happened to me on more than one occasions whereby I buy a product and then a few days later its been greatly reduced in price.

It used to be policy that they would do it within 30 days but they stopped that a few years ago. They do still do it and it is worth asking but I think you will find if you do it on every order they will start saying no. Probably best to save it for those where there is a bigger drop rather than a few pence.

I have had refunds before when a item has dropped price within a very short period. It was a gesture of good will so they don't have to do it

I asked Amazon for a price difference refund when the Kenwood mixer i bought was reduced the next day by £30 in John Lewis. Amazon refused saying that they don't do price matches so i returned the mixer and bought it from John Lewis instead.

I ordered something once that dropped drastically in price elsewhere so I didn't want the Amazon item on its way but didn't want to pay to return it.

I just refused delivery and it was sent back to Amazon for free. It took a while and I had to turn the courier away twice before they got the idea, but amazon just returned my payment when they got it back.

Is it only Amazon that do this? I ordered a bed for £149 2 weeks ago from Sainsburys which dropped to £44 this week!

Did you order online? if so under distance selling laws you could order the bed at a cheaper price and send the higher priced one back and they must refund.
