Hi
just wondered if anyone knows if i can still carry on using my nhs exemption certificate even after i have stopped claiming?
i now live with my partner, so stopped claiming altogether but my certificate is valid to june. and someone has told me i can still use until it becomes invalid, and i need some dental treatment. i'm just double checking as i don't want to get in trouble if i use it and i'm not entitled too thanks!!

I would imagine the certificate is only valid whilst you're claiming. You’ll be asked to show your dentist written proof that you’re entitled to help with dental treatment costs.
Any patient found to have wrongly claimed help with health costs will face penalty charges and, in some cases, prosecution under powers introduced by the Health Act 1999. The penalty charge is a civil fine and may be imposed where a patient is
found to have wrongly claimed total or partial help with health costs. The penalty charge is five times the amount owed, up to a maximum of £100. This is in addition to the original charge. Payment will be pursued by civil recovery if necessary.0
