Bank of Scotland Vantage Account

Hi

Had previously put this on to another thread related to Bank of Scotland, but decided better not to sabotage somebody else's thread, hence creating a new one.

I tried opening a BoS Vantage account last month, and ran into a number of problems. The long and short of it was that they opened an account for me, and let me know the sort code and account number, but later sent me a mail asking me for identification. When I took the ID docs to a Halifax branch as directed by them (I live in London, so no BoS branch here), and got them faxed across to their fax number, they came back with a statement that these accounts could only be opened at BoS branches.

What do you suggest I do now? I have had a credit check that they have done, have actually been accepted for the account, and then turned down. Am obviously cross with them, but the best way I can pay back I guess, is by getting three accounts opened and loading them up with near £5k balances !!!

Cheers

  • Try Lloyds or TSB as they both offer similar vantage current accounts

Worth checking that you are on the Elec roll as this is often used to verify ID.

Thanks for the response - already opened Lloyds and TSB, and opened them recently, so need the BoS accounts anyway.

Yes, I am, and nor do I think ID verification or credit check is the problem, As mentioned in my OP, I had already passed their checks and they had actually issued me a sort code and account number.

My question is - according to me, BoS accounts should be available across the UK, as I know from this forum and also based on the questions that are asked on the BoS website to verify eligibility for account opening before launching the application.

So how do I get one after all?

    Cheers

If you have recently opened 6 current accounts across Lloyds and TSB, I can see why BoS might be saying that they don't want you as a customer, and that they are perfectly entitled to do - they just might be giving you excuses rather than the truth.

:)On my first attempt I was unable to open BOS Vantage online, stalled when asked to detail my BoS Branch for account set up. I rang BoS customer service and explained the problem when I was stalled on the online application, they said put Glasgow in search engine and use any of the Branches that are shown, I used the first one on the list Balfron (804531) as my Branch, entered on my application form and was issued with a sort code and account number within the minute and my account appeared on Halifax Bank online the same day. I used the same Branch for my second BoS Vantage account. I was not asked for any identification for my accounts, maybe you need to apply for a Halifax Reward Account and get a £5.00 a month first + £100 if you switch an old current account (subject to terms and conditions) and I don't live in Scotland!

Not sure I buy that argument, since I had three accounts already with Lloyds and it was a cakewalk for me to open my first TSB account - no sweat. I don't think BoS putting roadblocks because you have three accounts each with the other two entities has been the experience of others on this forum either.
