Scanner wont scan in colour??

Hi techies,
Wonder if you can throw any light on my prob.
I have a Microtek Scanmaker 4700.
Had it for about 3 yrs and rarely a problem but after re-formatting the comp, and re-installing most things I find that the scanner is only producing mono results. Not B&W mind, but coloured according to the most predominant colour of the object.
Tried re-installing and just about everything else that I can think of but no joy.
Is this likely to be a hardware fault?

Difficult to say, but the fact you've reformatted the PC points the finger at a software fault rather than your scanner.
The first thing I would try is downloading and installing the latest drivers available for the scanner, see if this helps.0 -
Tried that but I cannot get the system to load the new software driver.

Perhaps you need to install the whole package, not just the driver.0

Try this driver. As usual with scanners, you will need to uninstall everything you've got (related to scanner, of course) first, unplug the scanner from the port (USB?), install the newly downloaded file, reboot (if asked), and only plug the scanner back after the installation is completed. New driver should install automatically.
Make sure you uninstall the scanner software as well, not just driver.0
