Moving (elec) to EDF with dual dial meter

We have a dual "dial" electricity meter that Eon have been quite happy to add together usage on both rates and charge the total usage against a standard rate. (To be honest we hadn't even looked at the meter/bills in detail to realise that was going on).
We recently chose to switch to EDF's Blue+ Price Freeeze plan as it was the cheapest long term fix at the time.
However we've now been told by EDF that, because of the meter, they've got to put us on the Economy 7 version of Blue+ Price Freeeze.
This isn't what we want at all as I'm sure it'll work out more expensive. We have an oil combi boiler so no immersion heater or anything else to make significant use of overnight electricity.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across this issue and if they know what deals/companies we would be able to switch to?
We don't understand why they wouldn't just add the 2 usage figures together as Eon obviously have been.

I'm puzzled as to why a tariff change should trigger this? Normally a supplier will either merge the readings from a dual rate meter or they won't-the tariff should not be relevant. Ask them to change the meter to a single rate one FOC if they want to retain your business. Otherwise it'll cost you around £60.
If you put your kWh figures through any comp site, once as single rate and once as E7 (using your dual rate percentage split from the meter or bills), it'll instantly tell you the cost difference. But typically you need to use 20%+ on night rate to make E7 cheaper.
You should be submitting your own reads at least every 3 months to avoid big catch up bills. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
It wasn't a tariff change, we changed supplier from Eon to EDF.
So is there a list somewhere of which suppliers will add the readings together and which won't?
We switched by using the Cheap Energy Club, it would have been useful if there had been a warning about this situation on there.0 -
Sorry, I misread the post. EDF won't, as you've found. Neither will SP.
But EDF should change the meter FOC. Again, some will charge and some will not charge for a change.
Even if you do have to pay, it's worth it if it will save you more than £60 over the minimum term.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
