Mortgage cover/life insurance and bipolar

Options
Does anyone know of any insurers that will over cover for anything for someone recently diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder?
Even just basic mortgage cover seems to be out of my reach.

The problem is I've only been diagnosed this year despite being under a psychiatrist for nearly 11 years. Even the specialist insurers seem to require a year post diagnosis.

I'm stable on meds with no history of psychiatric hospital admission and not suicidal. I do however have a history of self harm (no longer an issue) but insurers seem to equate this with suicide attempts. I don't know what planet they're living on.

I'd be grateful for any advice or recommendations.
