Mens pullovers priced at £37.50 in various colours.
Some of the tear-off price labels had been removed and new price stickers added priced at £39.50.

Is this normal practice at this time of year?

We asked a sales assistant about this and the comment was "there has been a price increase". If they were originally in the store with original labels price £37.50, how can they have "gone up" £2?

Maybe the original price was a mistake ? Perhaps a certain colour jumper was supposed to be more expensive, for whatever reason.

Or else they're just being cheeky, and putting up the price of the most popular colours. Ultimately it's their business, they can charge what they like - as can any retailer. Let's face it, they're in business to make a profit, pure and simple. They will charge as much as they think they can get away with, whilst remaining competitive.

By the way, this isn't a dig at M&S in particular, any business would do the same, they all want to make as much profit as possible, they're not charities.

Most clothing retailers will get weekly (if not daily) price changes that will come through from Head Office.

Sometimes an item is simply mispriced and needs correcting or sometimes an item is reduced to help it sell.
