The argument tends to revolve around which petrol has the best snake oil in.
    Be happy...;)

That meant we were never able to take advantage of money off coupons or lower prices

Ok use the Supermarket then and put in a squirt of petrol additive if you think its needed?
  • Maybe the supermarket fuel doesn't come from long decomposed dinosaurs ;)

    I use Esso.

Still get Clubcard points but don't have to use Supermarket fuels

And no matter what anybody might say the different additive packages do make a difference, more so in a diesel or in the OP's case a direct injected petrol engine which are prone to deposits building up causing running problems.

Esso near me are also the same price as Tesco and Asda so why take a chance.

You do realise you are probably 99% identical genetically to a halibut.

But it is the 1% that makes a difference

The basic fuel is the same, but the additive package isn't.

    It really is that simple.

Out in Tesco fuel and some Redex or similar to make up for the basic add package

Or just put in Esso for the same price and not have to add any Redex or similar.
  • My Astra 1.6 16v has done 99% of its 173,000 miles on supermarket petrol.

I don't see any need to buy anything other than the cheapest petrol available.

OP, before this starts another pointless, epically long and fruitless thread, have a search for similar questions, find out that all UK fuel meets minimum standards and around half of all UK fuel sales are from supermarkets. Not every second car is conking out, is it?

The important phrase of course is "minimum standards"

Tesco Baked Beans meet the minimum standard to be called Baked Beans but they ain't Heinz.

I am not going to stop anybody putting in supermarket fuels

But don't then try to tell me I should

Surely all teabags must taste the same and all wine must taste the same after all they are only tea leaves and grapes!

Well said bigjl. I still squirm every time I see cars worth £50k+ queueing up at supermarket petrol stations.
  • I have a 1996 Honda Fireblade superbike.
Bought it with 20000 on the clock, its now got 100,000 - always fueled on Asda / Sainsbury normal unleaded - it has never had any engine problems& can still lose boy racers in their GTI's with a twist of the wrist!!

if you buy anything other than supermarket petrol for your car you are simply throwing money away

This subject has been debated many times on these forums there are those who swear blind that supermarket fuel is not good for engines and those who don't notice any difference after using it for years.

Personally I fill up with the cheapest fuel in the area I am in be it supermarket or branded, in the thousands of miles I have driven and numerous cars I have owned I have never noticed any difference nor had any problems using supermarket fuel, plus with the many thousands of litres sold by supermarkets I have yet to see any vehicles broken down by the roadside due to supermarket fuel, contaminated of dirty fuel maybe but that can happen from any petrol station.
