Keep it on the worktop if there is space, and it takes no more time to clean than a breadmaker pan & paddle, less if you have a dishwasher (or OH with Marigolds ;))

Who cleans a bread maker pan and paddle?
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Forgot to add in my previous post, mine has a blender attachment which has been used for thai green curry paste at least 3 times so far. Much easier than with the stick blender, although the blender bit is harder to clean than the bowl and beater/dough hook attachments.

If your blender is similar to mine the easiest way to clean it is to put some water and washing up liquid in it (only a dribble) and turn it on and it more or less cleans itself. Just rinse out and dry - job done!

By the time you clean the thing, apart from finding somewhere to keep it- Is it worth the effort?

The one kitchen appliance that we would not be without (and is used almost daily) is a Panasonic Bread maker.

I got rid of my breadmaker because bread made in the mixer is better. And my mixer has a smaller footprint than the breadmaker did.

Cleaning requires lifting the bowl off the stand and the blade off the top and walking 3 steps and popping it in the dishwasher. Not much effort there. If I were making any of the items on my list without the mixer, I'd have exactly the same amount of washing up or in some cases a bit more by the way!

It is an item that in the average household is used twice or three times a [STRIKE]year[/STRIKE] week.

In reality there is [STRIKE]not[/STRIKE] a lot you can do with it.

There, I corrected that for you :)

Wow, thanks for all the replies! My main concern about getting one is whether or not we would get enough use out if it or whether it would collect dust at the back of the cupboard but having read some of the replies on here I am feeling more optimistic. Although we do not do full on baking (by which I mean lots of cakes etc) much, we do make a lot of bread (though we don't have a breadmaker), pizza bases, basic sponge mixes etc so hopefully it will come in handy.

I've had a look and it has got a dough hook, food processor and liquidiser attached, none of which we have got now so we should get some use out of these too.

My husband isn't what I would call a foodie but he has been saying for years that he wants one so I will be making sure he uses it!

It is obvious that it was not a Panasonic.

Not that obvious. I use my panasonic for the timer function. But I do like the mixer bread better when I'm home long enough to make it.

Nah. I've used a Panasonic bread maker in the past but much prefer bread made by hand, or at the very least with the dough kneaded in the Kenwood.

My kitchen is tiny but my mixer lives on the worktop permanently because it's used so much. There are only two of us at home but it still gets used constantly.

    Hi

I have this hand mixer: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kenwood-HM320-3-Speed-Hand-Mixer/dp/B00008O0VM and mainly use the dough hook when making bread. It's very good and makes tasty bread. Not really used the other beaters.
