£27.05 Customs charge for £15 Delivery

Hi,

I recently made 3 seperate orders from threadless dot com, each being $30 each (£15 ish). Recieved two of the orders last week but had a shock today when I got home to see a request for a customs charge of £27.05 before the royal mail will deliver the 3rd one.
I called Customs and Excise and explained the situation, she said that I would have to pay the £27.05 and reclaim the customs charge at a later date or my parcel would be returned to sender. I was also told that the handling fees from other sources added to the balance would not. I am so angry that they can get away with this. Surely it is their mistake and they should release the goods forthwith without any handling charges.

Any comments would be appreciated, especially ones that would help me get my tee shirts without having to pay this tax that should not have been added.

Thanks

John

  • Anything over a certain amount from other countries is subject to customs fees, unfortunately. I dunno what amount is...

I went to the post office today to have a look at the package. Good old threadless had marked the pakage as being worth 120 usd rather than 30usd that I paid. I also saw that 8 ukp of the charge was royal mails handling fee. Now i really dont know what to do. The postage from America was only £7.50 so do I pay the £27 customs charge and claim all but the £8 handling charge back off them, or do I try to get threadless to pay up seeing as it was their fault this happened by stating that they were worth 4 times their real value?

Really cheesed off as I had them lovely tee shirts in my hands earlier :S

Your claim is with Threadless. HMRC can only go by the information given to them. Drop them an email and let us know what they say x

I recieved an e-mail back from threadless last night, I'll go to the post office today and pay the duty and claim back. Was nice of threadless to give me a $10 voucher for my trouble, pretty good customer service.

    Hello John!

There was an issue with some packages being labelled with incorrect customs values. The good news is the problem has been fixed so it will not happen to future orders. We are sorry your order was part of this problem. You will be able to claim the money back from your customs office. You will have to speak with them to find out how to go about doing so. Let us know if your customs office requires any information from us. We understand the customs office can be quite the pain and we greatly apologize for the inconvenience this caused you. Here's a $10 coupon you can use on your next order for the trouble: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

If you aren't able to fix the customs value with the office, you can deny it and have it returned to us. We can update the value and send it out to you again when we get it back.

    Have a wonderful day!
