I would imagine they are two very different arms and they won't do anything with your credit file,

for instance experian provide some ID Assurance facilities for Government Services, doesn't touch your credit report but uses information from your credit history to authenticate

I'd say that this is the case. It is indeed unlawful for a lender (and in most cases employer) to discriminate on grounds of spent convictions if you have any.

Experian will have info on you from electoral roll anyway.

  • I would think they can only use it for the intended purpose.

Why not email them to ask what they do with the info?

This is news to me. The CRB usually do it and I don't see how Experian are entitled to.

I would think as an employer you are allowed to check this to confirm what an applicant says.

As it says, the higher levels are for certain jobs.

I don't have a criminal record so I am not bothered about that at all , but I do not like companies like Experian at all I had some problems with fraud on my name years ago and even though I could prove it Experian would not take it off my credit file , so now I want nothing to do with them ,

The CRB no longer exist - it's the Disclosure and Barring Service now. It's still run by the Home Office though

The data has to be processed by someone. Irrespective of your personal feelings towards them. Experian are the current providers.

We provide a background checking service to employers which can include various elements including as criminal record check, a limited credit check and previous employment checks. If a credit check takes place for employment purposes - always with your permission - you would see a footprint on your credit report but, importantly, this would not be visible to your lenders. No other information would be recorded on your credit report about this activity.
