Hospital day surgery....what to do?

Thanks to everyone who replied.
I have now had my op at the day unit.
As my trolley was wheeled out of theatre I was met by a nurse who said:
Get dressed! The unit is closing! I'll get your meds.Phone the person who is collecting you.
I was put in a wheelchair by the exit doors. The nurses left on the dot. I called a minicab and the last member of staff wheeled me out to the cab.
I've been ok at home.
Good lord, I find this appalling! I really would expect for you to have some aftercare in hospital at least whilst you were coming round from the sedation.
I'm glad you have been ok but even so this really isn't on. They should not be scheduling surgeries with sedation so late in the day that there isn't time to adequately recover the patient from theatre.:A

My treatment was fine until I was wheeled out of surgery. Then the rush was on!
I didn't have sedation though, only local anesthetic.
I'll well aware that the staff rushed me more than the patients that had been in the same room cubicles earlier, who had longer rest time.0 -

Glad you're ok, anyway.0 -

What did they say when you told them there was nobody collecting you?
I hope you're going to complain.0 -
I'm a hospital regular & have twice walked out of the hospital on my own after surgery, they do ask if you have someone to collect you but they don't check or anything. I'd strongly advise you to get someone to meet you though as like you say you don't feel yourself for a few days or sometimes longer. Good luck xxx0

Sorry I only just noticed thisGlad you're OK ANNA, that's one of the reasons I've walked out twice on my own, most of them really don't care. Although there's some nice people & I'm grateful for all of my treatment ....

I think care is mixed.
I had amazing, amazing follow up last year from a junior in eye clinic who called me twice at On my way! To see how I was doing.
This year my eyes seem much better news :j but I was so grateful to her kindness. I have care in NHs and private regularly, and I have to say its mixed across both sectors IME, but at lea in private they don't care politely and with a cup of coffee and someplace very clean, whereas, in NHs first and the third should be a given but aren't always.0
