First off, in Scotland
oven thermostat is gone so room filled with smoke within minutes and eyes hurt and sore throat etc, also the washing machine is very old(but good) and the metal hinge on door has worn out so its hanging off(still closes as 1 out of 2 hinges are ok but will break)
Landlord says its my responsibility to fix and I have to get new oven.

Unless you've caused the oven to break, which I'm assuming you haven't, the LL should fix or replace it. Does it say anything on the inventory about the condition of the oven when you moved in?0

I honestly dont know if its in the agreement but I think I saw it.
Also when my social worker came round to inspect before I moved in there was a gas leak in the cooker and her and the landlords witness heard him say he would put a brand new cooker in before I moved in(which he never did)
I dont think he is refusing due to just being greedy I think he is just not a very good landlord in knowing rights, he seems to be a nice guy and got a plug socket fixed almost instantly as well as a broken shower.
I think it is because I had a power cut to flat about 6 weeks ago and he sent out electrician and by time electrician came round I managed to fix the problem myself(turns out the big fuse for meter was faulty) and I asked the electrician to double check but the electrician refused and walked off and that cost him quite a bit0 -

Is that for Scotland?
My general, but not legal advice, would be. LL should replace the defective part or the oven, as it is defective. If it's one of these cheapy ovens that come out of Italy (made under all sorts of names/brands but all look very similar) the thermostat doesn't usually make it past 2 years and by then, it's probably cheaper to get a new one.
As for the washing machine, that could be seen as wear and tear or misuse. Is it a simple job to replace it, a screwdriver? If so, I'd just get a new bracket and do it myself.0 -

As the LL supplied the appliances they have a responsibility to repair them otherwise the OP can apply to the Private Rented Housing Panel. This is according to Shelter Scotland.0
