House contract - "Buyer" not filled out?!

Hi,

We're currently purchasing a house and after a few delays, have just been sent a contract to sign from the solicitor, and been asked to make sure we have at least 10% of the funds in place to act as a deposit:
Please sign the contract (at the bottom in the box) which is being attached. Do not write the date anywhere. Also keep 10% deposit ready.

The details are mostly filled out (property, seller, title number, incumbrances) apart from completion date (understandably) but also the date the contract was created, and the "Buyer:" field too.

Does that sound normal? Just want to be sure before I sign anything :S

Thanks

Unfortunately, that is quite normal. It is sometimes difficult for the seller's solicitor to get confirmation of the buyers full names right up to the point at which contracts are exchanged, so your Solicitor will complete those blank parts when he formally exchanges the contract with the one signed by the sellers. It's laziness really as he could just have filled in your full names!

Oh! Thanks Catti, that's good to know :) Like you said it is odd (and maybe a little lazy) not to fill in the names, but at least it's nothing to worry about.
