Card Payments Tool

Hi there,

My name is Martha, I am a self employed catering professional. Typically I have problems to take card payments on events and for takeaways. I have been looking on the web, and I have found many solutions, however the most suitable seems to be an app for phones called SMARTTRADE. Apparently the widget not only takes card payments at a cheaper-than-bank rate, but also does invoices and accounts/tax. Reviews are quite good on the app store, but I preferred to look for a second opinion, have you guys heard of it? Any thougths?

Cheers!

  • I can't say I have much experience with Smarttrade but I use iZettle and that works well for me, it also accepts all cards unlike some solutions.
  • Hi reclusive46,

I will have a look at it and consider my options -another user just recommended WorldPay Zinc-

    Thanks for replying!

    Hi reclusive

I'm really intrigued... I don't know what type of business you have, but are your customers ever nervous about tapping their PIN into your phone?

It seems such an obvious target for fraudsters. Make a fake plastic box with a slot in it, and stick it on the bottom of your phone. Then write a little app to display a keypad, and to store the PIN numbers that are keyed in by customers.

After a custoner uses the device, your accomplice pickpockets the card - and you have the card plus PIN. Or have I missed something?

Thats the old chip and signature reader (The card is inserted but the customer has to sign). iZettle now has a separate chip and pin pad that connects with the phone via bluetooth.

The device is basically a normal chip and pin device (Also has swiper on left for non-chip cards) but it processes the data via your phone.

This might be useful but you need an Android device with a data connecton

I think people might less comfortable with the PayPal here as the device doesn't have a display, you just enter your PIN it. You have no idea how much your typing your PIN in for or anything.
  • does the amount show on screen? maybe that would do... but its true, do you think customers will have a bad reaction towards this kind of payment method?

The iZettle does show on the screen, just like any other card machine. The PayPal here doesn't have any on display screen.

How did they recommend? Private message? Just wondering why they didn't 'recommend' publicly on the forum for all to see.

They recommended it on another thread. The OP asked the same question elsewhere.
