Hi all, just a warning to all people who are named drivers for a motability car, when it comes to getting insurance for your own car you do not get any no claims . Was being quoted £2000+ and getting told even though had no accidents, claims ect because it was a motability car did not count even though the motability insurers RSA give you a letter detailing your driving history :(. Then by chance got put through to * at Adrian Flux Insurance, bless him as he listened to my disgruntled rants, agreed it was unfair and proceeded to find me a full comp fairly priced insurance :T .He is brilliant and i cant praise him enough, :D

I have just learned something new.

When you are done moaning remember that there are people who would love to have your standard of living!
  • But another way of looking at it is that you've been insured for free whilst having the mobility car so its swings and roundabouts really

  • Mountainofdebt i do not understand your comment that its free insurance - do you know how motability works? My post was just to let other named drivers of mobility cars know how you do not get any no claims and that affects the price of insurance greatly. I had seen comments from other people with the same problem on a thread here :p

Leemo72, it is not a Motability issue, it is an issue that potentially affects every named driver on any motor insurance policy.

If you are a named driver, and don't have a motor insurance policy in your own name, then usually you will not earn a No Claims Discount*.

*there a few companies, Direct Line is one, that do not follow this practice.
  • I understand what you are saying and this is not a sneaky advert this is just my experience trying to buy car insurance. I did try direct line, morethan, churchhill and even rsa who are the motability insurers, even went through confused.com and go compere - think i tried them all! They say they accept a letter from motability with full driving history but it certainly did not reflect on the price - the quotes i got were really high. As i said before i only put my post up as i had seen posts from others in the same position, was just trying to be helpful, really didnt expect this reaction, was just happy to get fair insurance

Not sure why you had such a problem, when my dad passed away last year I arranged insurance for my mum who had been a named driver on his motability policy for 6 or so years.

RSA said they'd provide a cover letter stating that she been insured by them and were even happy to quote with a NCD discount, and morethan were happy to accept this as an equivalent to proof of no claims when we asked for (and then took) a policy.

I read that Motability are setting up an insurance advice team to deal with all of the people who will get binned from their scheme when IDS gets his filthy act together.

They say that they are already in advanced talks with various insurers.

Although this will be of no help to you now, your comments may have raised concerns for those who know that they may fail the future new assessment.

It is hoped that the new team will be a one stop shop for the easy transfer of insurance cover (at a cost of course).
