Hiya :-)
Although device manager says both intel hd and nvidia geforce gt 620 are up to date and working fine (on dell inspiron 660s, with Dell U2313HM VGA monitor), I'm getting the error message "NVIDIA Settings are not available. You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU."
Looking on the back of the computer, I can see the monitor isn't plugged into the graphics card, but am unsure which cables to get .. writeup about the monitor details about linking to a range of devices with 4 USB ports, a DisplayPort, plus DVI and VGA connections. Not seeing HDMI referred to. I don't know what DVI and HDMI are about, but can see the graphics card has two external slots on it that things can be attached to.
Saw, via google search, somebody with same computer, card, and monitor, who said the graphics card has an HDMI port, and should they purchase an HDMi>DVI cable to connect to the monitor (monitor has no HDMI port). Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards, Cat

DVI to HDMI is perfectly normal and would be the way to go.
Can you describe the slots on the back of the graphics card?
...are they both the same?
Do they look like this:

Thanks WTFH :-) I've taken a photo, and think they're the same as in your photo.
Slots on monitor are these.
There's no HDMI on the monitor, so I'd be using the small connector on the graphics card, and the cream DVI connector on the monitor? I've seen a cable on Amazon, and it says it can go from an HDMI computer to a DVI monitor ... hoping I've got that the right way round. :-)

Personally, I'd go DVI to DVI.
The two connectors on the left of your picture are: DVI and then under that HDMI.
You've got DVI on the monitor as well, so it would make sense to use DVI to DVI, that way no adaptors are needed. The specific cable is a DVI-D.

Thanks so much WTFH :-) and for the link. Bit of an Amazon girl, with a free month's trial of Prime, lol, so would this one do?

or the Bluerigger one ... http://www.amazon.co.uk/BlueRigger-DVI-Digital-Dual-Link-Cable/dp/B009WA2NKY/ref=sr_1_15?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1386769635&sr=1-15&keywords=BlueRigger0 -
I'm a bit curious because normally a Dell monitor comes with a choice of connection cables ... or did you buy this second hand and the seller forgot to include them?... Yes, either will do.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

Thanks Oblivion :-) Would you believe, I've just had a rummage round, as I suddenly remembered there was a plastic bag with a couple of cables (bought monitor new via Amazon) ... couldn't find those, but did find a little VGA to DVI connector, so I've got the pc running with nvidia now, got the nvidia settings panel up, etc! Thanks for jogging my memory.0 -
