Radon gas - a few more questions

I've just had the environmental search back on a house I'm buying and it has given a 'moderate to high' rating on the area being affected by radon gas. I've done a search on this forum and a lot of the comments are very encouraging and have put my mind at rest quite a bit but a few things still puzzle me.

The house I currently own is just a couple of streets away (you can actually see it on the aerial map that the search company provide showing my new house) and when I bought it the search done then (2007) didn't find any radon gas.

I spoke to my friend last night who currently owns the house I am buying and she found 2 reports that were done when she bought it back in 2004 and they both stated that the property is not within 25m of a radon affected area.

I guess I will have to double check with the relevant environmental department but just wondered why the presence of radon has changed or why 2 houses so close to one another have different results. I haven't heard from my buyer's solicitor yet so I guess the house I currently own could now be affected.

Thoughts anyone? Thanks..

the risk report you will have received is based on postcode only BUT...

19% of all UK properties are located on the radon map using postcode only so it is certainly possible for 2 streets to return different results if they are in a remote area

for the other 81% of properties the radon rating is accurate to an individual property so again the results could be different for 2 houses next door to each other which may or may not be in different postcodes so again the reported results could vary
