Bought new boiler, but do we still need cover?

I'll continue to live with the risk of those not being covered then...
of course you will, you are prepared to be exposed to a higher level of risk than some others.
I would say that in my experience faults are 70/30 system rather than boiler, maybe not a lot of rads but lots of pumps, valves, stats, leaks and programmers0 -
The boiler warranty and GSR documentation should be registered by the installer, why are you having to do it? The point of that is to certify that a legit WB installer has done the work.
I think we both did. I went on the website to do it just because I like to sure. But I called WB later to ask about the details of the cover. They confirmed that the engineer I used was legit for the type of boiler installed, and that my warranty was valid.0 -
Sure, but that's not where the real costs lie is it - even I can make a few minor repairs to the heating system. But if you can't, it's the flipping call-out charge that's the killer. Not to mention trying to find someone to do it and the 'endless piece of string' response time!
Find a decent local independent RGI who doesn't impose a call out charge, or a reasonable one.
I've never had to pay a call out of more than £30. As long as you can turn off a water leak yourself, a boiler or CH issue is rarely an emergency requiring instant response. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Oh yeah - over the course of 12 months we had to change the valves (twice), the PCB (3 times!), had pump issues, a couple of rad leaks and water coming through the living room ceiling [not to mention a bath pump that was spraying water - but I digress]. On the bright side - the programmers worked.0 -
Can you clarify? Are you saying WB HAVE a service plan that covers the whole system (rads, pipework, non-WB controls, WB boiler etc) and it only costs £7 more per annum than the boiler annual service? Well this would have solved everything! I didn't realise they did this, and I am struggling to find any information on their website about their service plans. I'm very curious about your letter now!
Having said that, I was told I wasn't eligible for THEIR service plan(s) until my 5yr boiler warranty ran out. There was no confusion in the conversation - the agent understood I was after a 'one stop shop' solution for my boiler and whole heating system.
Not exactly.
The boiler was installed by a WB accredited installer not WB themselves.
The offer is from this company not WB.
I am under the impression the reason my boiler was pushed out to 7 years (over the normal 5) is because they did the install.
I certainly have a certificate from WB themselves confirming the 7 years (10 on the hex) subject to the servicing getting done.
The company (if using the service plan) actually act as a single point of contact to WB for the boiler and they would also manage the none WB parts of the system.
Basically a one stop system and i don't have to deal with WB directly.0 -

Now and again over the last few years WB have increased the period to 7 years, and at other times it has been 5, which is still very good.
At the moment they are actually giving 7 years with many of their accredited installers
"
The standard boiler guarantee is 2 years. However, we are currently offering a 5 year boiler guarantee promotion until 31st December 2013 on selected Greenstar gas boilers. See the promotion page for details, terms and conditions.
Many Worcester Accredited Installers on our ‘Find an installer’ search can offer extended guarantees up to 7 years."0 -

I am impressed! It just goes to show that the installer is as important, if not more, than the product itself.0 -

I think my plumber told a few little white lies when he recommended the boiler, saying he was an accredited installer and so instead of 2 years we were getting 5yrs guarantee. When I called WB I was told he was not one of their accredited installers and that they were offering the 5yr promotion anyway! It would be 7yrs with their accredited installers. Fortunately the installer had the right accreditation to meet the 5yr guarantee.
Am I right in assuming that 'accredited WB installers' are not necessarily THEIR employees. So potentially they can make boiler parts replacements (keeping WB happy) and offer their own 'full central heating' service plans on the side (keeping the customer re-assured)?0 -

The accredited installers are independent and can be found from the WB link above.
Please note that that not all of these are able to offer the 7 year guarantee (not sure what criterion they use), so even if you had used one from the list, one local to you might not have had this extra insurance.
Back in Jan 2010 when mine was installed the max offered by WB was 5 years which was better than any other manufacturer.0
