Morning all!
Nothing OS done today so far and probably won’t do anything, haha, but then I am at work.
Already spent money as I passed a McDonalds and just had to have a double sausage and egg meal. Yum. Diet (moneywise and waistwise!) can start in January, right?!
Redruby – good luck to your daughter. I couldn’t think of anything worse than shopping in London at any time, and certainly not this close to Christmas. I live just on the outskirts and my mum’s cab to take my daughter to school (my boss pays, so at least that’s sort of OS) was late. The cabbie’s excuse was that it was Christmas and everyone wanted cabs. Hmmmm.
Christmas tree was put up yesterday. My poor little girl asked why daddy had one and we didn’t. Awww. She was promised that she could decorate it when she came in from school, but apparently she put one item on it and then flopped down in front of the telly! Typical!
JackieO – I’m a bookworm as well, but I don’t like spending money on books. Haha. My neighbour gave me bags and bags full about a year ago and I’m still working my way through them. I don’t seem to have any particular taste, although there are a few on my reading list, but I’m too tight to buy them. I tend to download books from the library on to my iPhone which is really good. Was going to get a Kindle, but not sure if I can justify it seeing as I can read on my phone. Are they much better do you think?

Hi everyone,
Third attempt at posting.
Luxor, my nails get very ridged but a few months ago I found a 7 in 1 nail file in Boots which has a side for smoothing ridges and that has helped the appearance a lot. I wish I knew the cause though - I put it down to my underactive thyroid.
I made the cake yesterday - mum always used to make it but she's nor up to it now so I've done it the last two years. It's a lot to live up to though as people have always said hers is the best they've ever tasted. Last year was a success, I'm not so sure this year but I don't eat it. It will be split between 4 families so not too overwhelming for DH who scoffs it while complaining all the time about his weight as if I'm force feeding him.
Just about to set off for Yorkshire so I hope the fog isn't too bad. The car is stuffed, I don't know where it all comes from. See you later.0 -
Morning all,
Couldn't believe how icy it was this morning. I don't think I've ever had so much trouble scraping the car before.
I was only invigilating for an hour this morning. It was French listening and I was quite pleased I could understand most of it, even though I haven't done it since school 24 years ago!
Popped into Tesco and got pizza for tea and had some boots to collect from the direct counter.
Its the christmas lunch at school today and I'm not feeling very festive. We had DS2's first 6th form open evening and he isn't doing as well as hoped. Understandably the Ethics/philosophy was not his first choice (he got moved from pshycology) and apparently he doesn't like it and it struggling. The teacher said if he drops it now he won't be allowed to stay on next year to make his other three subjects full A levels. So we have a meeting with the head of year tomorrow. Just hope we can sort something out.0 -
Hi all,
TTFTM thanks for your thoughts, but I have decided not to have the op. They couldn't guarantee that the cancer was back, and they wanted to remove my kidney.:( I have had enough surgery and hospitals, so said "No Thanks" and will take my chances. My family are behind me all the way.:T
I feel a lot better now. Went to church Sunday, and that made me feel good too.:A
Got to get my head round Christmas, though not really in the mood.:o
Thanks for everyone's support. xxI Believe in saving money!!!:T

Morning All
Hilly that is a very brave decision and I admire your strength x x
Was very foggy this morning, but it has brightened up, bit on the chilly side, but I have put some washing on the line just in case.
The tree is up and I have wrapped all the presents, all spending finished now apart from the fresh stuff like milk, eggs, fruit and veg :j We will get the eggs from the farm next week (30 medium eggs are £3.50 or large £4) I have 2 sacks of potatoes in the shed and I will get the brussels, carrots and parsnips on Saturday from the market and prepare and freeze them and part roast the potatoes ready for Christmas day the pigs in blankets are made and in the freezer as are the mince pies, quiche and cheesecake. I am icing the cake tonight.
The only thing that I prepare on Christmas Eve is the trifle
Dinner tonight is shepherds pie.

Haven't been on MSE for AGES!!! Nothing that will change the world but I'm pleased with myself :T...this morning I:
Helped OH put up some curtains over the doors to prevent draughts (cost me £10 for charity shop curtains and the bits and bobs needed to hang them)
Baked buns for my Art Club "fuddle"
Used dry shampoo AGAIN to go another day without washing my hair:eek:
Booked cinema tickets for Sunday morning for OH, DD and myself costing a grand total of £3.Laughing at my ancient signature...voodoobaby now 10 years old:eek:0 -
Hillstep - hugs, you are so brave.
Sistercas - enjoy having your DD1 home!
NMLC - good luck at the dentist.
I finally feel rested! went to be at 8:30 last night, and didn't manager to get up with pup for our 6am walk... (OH had left for work at 5 and I woke up cuddling the dog like a teddy bear, so pretty sure he's okay with our lie in!) Will pop out with him later.
We were going to have takeaway last night as neither of us wanted to cook our planned meal, but instead had a YS pizza that was lurking in the freezer, so saved pennies. yay. Will cook tonight though.
OH has docs apt as we had the ambulance out to visit on Friday evening as he collapsed, and they don't know why. So hopefully he gets answers.
Nothing much else to report! No Christmas shopping done at all yet and am working this weekend and next, so no idea when it will get done!
Hugs to all who wants/need them x x0 -
Hi all.
Hilstep well done on making your decision; I can't say I blame you, it's a big op to go through, when they aren't even 100% sure what's going on. Have a (((HUG))).:o
Our new landline phone arrived the day before yesterday (old one has been playing up for a long time, and has finally died the death). I got us a cordless jobbie with a charging base, so that if Mr LW needs to look at something on the computer screen while he's on the phone, he can take the handset with him.
We almost never use the landline - we don't accept calls on it (answering machine tells callers to ring Mr LW's mobile) and just use it when he has no choice but to call an 08.. number, which costs an arm and a leg from a mobile.
Anyways, I got it using @mazon vouchers from online surveys, so no actual money outlay.:money:
I managed to get it installed before Mr LW got home yesterday - it had to charge for 24 hours before being connected to the phone line - and I've also managed to dispense with some of the "spaghetti" behind my desk.:T
I just checked our bread situation, and it looks like I'll need to make a loaf tomorrow; so I may tweak the meal plan and bring Friday's pizza forward to tomorrow, so that Mr LW only needs to fetch the BM down once (it lives on top of the fridge-freezer when not in use), as I use the BM to make the dough for the pizza base.
Note to self: I'll also need to make a cake tomorrow; possibly 'nana cake, as there are loads of bananas on the dish, as I got about a dozen of them for £1 at the weekend.:o
It's mushroom risotto for dins tonight, which is nice and easy to do.:T And the last of the blackberry and apple crumble for pud.;)
We're looking forward to Saturday, when my Hairy Hooligans come to stay for two nights.:D
ETA: Gonzo I hope OH gets on ok at the docs, and there's nothing seriously wrong. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

Hugs Hilly, I missed your original post. My hat off to you lovely lady and lots of positive healing vibes your way xxx
BB can you come to mine and prepare for Christmas dinner please
Did an inventory/sort out of my freezer. I am apparently stockpiling flour, frozen broccoli and chickens for a zombie apocalypse:o
Spent a small fortune at Mr. M this morning BUT some of that was DVDs for Christmas presents and 4 bottles of wine.
I have £15 off Mr a shop that needs using so if I can schedule a delivery the day it expires I will only need a shop for fresh stuff just before Christmas. I do not fancy shopping with the kids in tow :eek:I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

This is a bit late in the day to be joining the thread. It's still foggy here and I'm struggling to do anything although a few bits are happening. I feel off-colour which doesn't help.
DS2 is off to work in an hour and I think that when he leaves and I'm on my own in the house I will switch the heating off and get into bed to try and do some paperwork all comfy and warm under the covers with the radio and a big cup of tea.
I've got a third load of washing on, cleaned the toilet, got DS2 to sort out a ton of recycling, ordered a small filing cabinet ready to get the filing done for once and for all in January, and I got DS2's Xmas present of a new computer chair ordered at the same time. Oh, and I've sorted out a load of competition entries in the new year for our young sports people at the club we run, and rearranged some coaching dates, and I'm making slow inroads into the kitchen mess... maybe it's not been so unproductive after all.:D
I think I probably need to stick up a piece of paper somewhere prominent and list what I've done that day as I complete the jobs. It feels far too often that I've finished the day feeling as if I've achieved nothing but actually masses has been accomplished, I just can't see it in the muddle.
B x
PS Hilstep, that sounds like a very brave, strong decision.0
