This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone
Crazy busy this week, juggling Chrimbo shopping, nativity plays and just a heap of other things so posting has been sporadic to say the least. Hoping things slow down a bit next week.
Need to start writing a list of what I want to get in for Christmas. I refuse to be doing a big shop, days before Christmas with the kids in tow
Not much else going on, am sitting here in the peace and quiet basking in the glow of the Christmas tree lights, it's really foggy out and feeling pretty contented and blessed. Will this feeling last once the kids get up and start bickering? :rotfl::rotfl:
Not sure about tea, might make a chicken curry.
Hugs and spoons all round xxI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]Morning :santa2:

[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]The tree is up, and not much elseI did the same thing I do every year – put the base together and turn the three screws carefully to make sure it's lined up, if I don't then the tree leans over slighty and you don't realise til the whole thing is up. Just got it perfect and realised I had to undo them to put the 'trunk' in  I've had this tree for years, you'd think I'd remember. I put the lights on, spent ages making sure they were evenly spaced. Then I found the new box of lights we bought in the sale in january  The new ones are nicer – and there are 400 of them – so I couldn't not use them. I took the lights off and started again. I've managed to put the strings of green shiny beads on and the slighty creepy-faced angel is on top. I'd had enough by then

I hung my crocheted bunting above the back door. I keep looking at it - does it look festively wonderful or just naff? Not sure, but I made it so it's staying :rotfl:
[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]I'm going out at 12, so will just do a couple of loads of washing and whizz the hoover round this morning. Hopefully some festive cheer will return today and I'll finish my tinseling later

Good Morning All.
Its really foogy out there today, and i am putting off the walk up the field until it gets a bit brighter. Busy day here with work and home so dinner tonight might just be a chippie.
Didnt sleep too well last night so feeling tired before i started today. Hope everyone who has to travel stays safe in this fog.
Hugs to all who need them xxBright Blessings xx0 -
Morning All
Hope you are all well and getting in the festive spirit! I have to say that I am now looking forward to Christmas and may even try to find the tree and decorations at the weekend (doesn't mean I will put them up though!).
Didn't get in till gone 5 yesterday (usually get in about 3.30) as we had a netball match at school. Then scrubbed the downstairs bathroom again and cleaned off some of the paint that was all over the window sill, can't believe it was so messy from someone painting. Need to do the same with the other one tonight.
Tea was macaroni cheese but the cheese I bought wasn't very tasty so it was a little bland but edible and DD wolfed it down anyway.
Going to the bank on my way home today to change my address, can't believe there are so many folk to tell. Did the DVLA one yesterday and it took about an hour - they wanted to know everything, passport number, paper license number, etc.
Anyway, mince something for tea tonight, not sure what yet - I am having school christmas dinner today.
Take care. XX
PS Sistercas - I am still near Loch Lomond but not as close as before, probably about 5 miles from where I was. We can still see Ben Lomond from the front bedroom window!0 -
Morning everyone
Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x
Still dark here, and it's foggy again. Not nice.
DH up and now getting ready for work.
Dinner last night was fish, chips, beans for the menfolk, I had omlette and salad. Remembered to get the chicken out of the freezer so that's defrosted and in the fridge, ready for me to cook later - will do a roast tonight as we didn't have 1 at the weekend.
Have dentist appointment this afternoon - I hate the dentist but go as have had problems since having the children!
Friend phoned Monday night - the proverbial do-do has hit the fan - she's in a real state and is in a terrible mess and is asking me for advice. She's an old friend and I feel obliged to listen but I don't know the full details but she's done some stuff she really shouldn't (she tries to be careful about what she tells me and what she doesn't and has regularly contradicted herself from telling me 1 thing and then something different) and some of that stuff could get her into really serious trouble and that's just the stuff I know about - it's highly likely that there's a whole heap of stuff I don't know about. Trying to just give the advice I can (ie, perhaps you need to speak to CAB etc, all pretty general stuff) as I really am not willing to get involved. I'm thinking it's likely that she will come round later, will have to wait and see what happens.
Work was busier yesterday than Monday but not as busy as it has been - so will wait to see what happens today. Saw lots of people yesterday who needed assistance submitting claims so did several yesterday - the Government states the economy is getting better - it's certainly not the case for this area, it's really still very slow and no jobs around here. Working just until lunchtime then on days off, have all the normal chores to do - so will get cracking with those later.
DS1 has his first driving lesson booked for this morning, but don't know if she may cancel due to the fog - will have to wait and see, the fog isn't that bad but it's his first 1.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all,
Not sure if its foggy here, not been out the door yet. Off to work for me, dd is going to Uni to hand some work in and then she has the day off, her and her friend are off to London Xmas shopping. She has to go in for one lecture tomorrow and then she is finished, Sistercas enjoy having your dd home xx
Dinner tonight will be fish pie for OH and I and there is a Lagagne for dd if she wants dinner when she gets in.
Need to do a wash tonight, and I have a work meeting (for my other job) which will go on for a few hours, but at least it is here so I don't have to go anywhere.
Have good days all.
Hugs to Hilstep who's op is today (I think)0 -
Good morning everyone
Was in the middle of my morning post then spotted something on my ebay account and lost the post, so this is a sneaky one from work.
Some lovely person has decided to leave me neutral ebay feedback for high postage costs. The parcel cost £2.60 to post and I charged £3 but they have decided that it was very small and I overcharged. I think they need to take this up with Royal Mail, not me because it definitely would not go large letter, so my only other option was small parcel. I will try explaining and ask them to change the feedback but what's the betting I don't get far with it
No fog here instead we have very chilly and clear skies.
hilstep, I hope all goes well today. Sending every positive and healing wish your way.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super dayLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

Good Morning everyone, brr its not only cold but very foggy this morning.DD is off today so I have a day off from the school run:):).
My brother arrived home from france and its lovely to see him for a couple of days We are going to get some Christmas things for him to take back this morning and this afternoon I see my consultant at the hospital about my reconstruction op.I am hoping he will be pleased at the weight loss although I know I still have a bit more to lose before he will start altering my body:)
I only have about five more cards to write out and then they are all done.
I saw my sis-in-law yesterday in Faversham and she gave me four huge boxes of books that she was going to bin after a sort out and I said I will find a good home for them.I have a dozen biographies to give to my DDs MIL as she likes those and some of the mens thrillers I have found someone who likes them Wilbur Smith,John Grisham type of books.I have a big Sainsbobs orange carrier full of chick-lit books that will go to eldest Dds school for distribution to some of the ladies there and I have another few friends who will be happy to have some of the others. It would have been a shame to bin them as they are mostly hard backs and in good condition.I always tell folk when you've finished with them drop them into a charity shop afterwards .I like to recycle as much as I can.As I have myself over 1-2 thousand books indoors I just haven't anymore room for anymore:) but I have spotted a few that might make their way onto my reading list.:):)
You can tell I'm a real bookworm can't you, and yes I have a Kindle as well:):)
I also was given a nice little Christmas cake that she had made for me which was kind.
I can't eat much of it at the moment because of my diet but I know I will have a small slice at Christmas along with my DDs ma-in-law as we are the only ones who like Christmas cake.
Right, time I got a wriggle on.I am going to try and get a walk-in appointment for a trim for my hair this morning as I am looking like an old engliush sheepdog at the moment, and am vanishing behind a mop of hair, its gotta go:):)

Happy 11/12/13!
shame I didn't post at 10 past 9!
Another dry, crisp day here with a bit of blue sky.
I ironed 39 garments yesterday - we have a long hallway with a dado rail to I hung them the length of the hall as I ironed. Admittedly, some belonged to DD and will go onto eBay but most were DH's. I think I earned my meal last night - but I was paying!
I'm in the mood for a wander so I'm going to get up to the bus stop on the hill, and ride into town to go to Poundland. Maybe I can find a neutral coloured nail varnish to cover my dreadful ridged nails - they weren't like this last year but they look like a 3D OS map of somewhere hilly these days.
Going to do a T*sco shop this afternoon, so dinner is sitting there waiting for us!
Thinking of Hilstep x
Have a good day xI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0
