Just got back from holiday at Hemsby Pontin's 9th to 13th July
We had a Budget Apartment it was clean
We all enjoyed ourselves going to Great Yarmouth then next day to Somerleyton Hall.
Good weather we had.
A Big Thanks to All the posters here who posted codes etc.
Hi Tipster,
I am off to Hemsby with my 5 year old daughter on the 23rd, just wondering please how far is Hemsby from Gt Yarmouth and whats the Hemsby site like please? Is there much 2 do on the site for a 5 yr old? Thanks in advance! If I say something you like....Please hit the thanks button :beer:0 -
I am finally back from my free pontins holiday. Set off at 10.25 this morning- a personal best for me
We had car trouble about half way home, the gearbox went so we had to wait for a recovery truck.
We have had a great week. This was my first trip ever to a pontins- we usually have at least 1 Haven holiday each year.
Our 1st impresions of the accomodation were very bad to be honest- the windows were dirty, the carpet was badly marked and all the walls were dirty??? We soon unpacked though and i had a little tidy round with stuff i had packed in anticipation. 20 mins at the most.
And then there was no stopping us! There was much more to do than on our usual haven camp. I think the kids entertainment started at 10.30am and then something else followed on throughout the day right up till the early hours of the following day! This was at Prestatyn- i would defo recommend this camp to anyone without a car as there is no need to leave the camp once you're there. We had a budget chalet and spent about £10 on electricity cards- i am a 'neshy' though and did lots of cooking so other people may use less.
I thought the welcome booklet of coupons was great. The character merchandise was very reasonable. The kids refill drinks were only 59p a time. These little bargains make a big difference when you have kids that want, want, want all week long! We were lucky with the weather too.
I went with my sister & kids on this one and have another one booked to go with my hubby & kids on the 23rd to southport!!! Woo Hoo:happylove

Hi char_student
Hemsby to Gt Yarmouth is about 7 to 8 miles by car.
Buses are ever 30 mins or 1 hour.
Try getting the car park in Gt Yarmouth that say's Long Stay cause it's cheaper then the short stay.
We got there early 2:30pm u have to book at 4.pm then there was big queue.
Your 5 year old daughter will love it that week barney was there I think your week Bagder & Bodger will be there.
There is a swimming pool two tennis courts & play area.
accommodation is a lower apartment and upper Apartments we liked it cause we could park the car very near to us.
Got talking to a local who said u can walk from Hemsby sandy Beach to Gt Yarmouth which I did.
From Pontin's if u turn right is the beach about 10 min walk or turn left into old Hemsby village for the post office.
Have great fun.0 -

We've had 23 haven hols over the years and I agree so much more for the kids at pontins
In the early daysbefore British holidays bought out haven we used to holiday with them, and there was non stop stuff for the kids, and adults too. Plus great prizes, cash, holidays, medals and character stuff for the kids
As the years went on they pushed the prices up and reduced the entertainment/quality of prizes. These days all they seem to do is "colouring in" with the kids and they're lucky if they even get one certificate all week. Pontins did loads and our kids won 2 medals each in 2 days! Plus we got £40 vouchers and 2 free holidays for winning the darts.
haven is cleaner, and the complexes a lot more modern, but at the end of the day, what do the kids prefer? They dont worry about whether stuff is up to date do they?
We went to prestatyn too, and yes the chalet was grubby, but overall we were never bored.
btw I cooked our meals and made lots of coffees and only used £1 leccy!!:D
Didnt you think the beds were terribly uncomfortable too? Ours felt like they'd been there since the war!I can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...0 -
if you're going to Southport, try and get to Formby Point (by the beach) There is a beautiful red squirrel sanctuary there and the squirrels are really tame and come up to you!I can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky.
