I moved into Flat A on the 4th of july 2013. Tenancy ends around 3rd jan 2014, after which it is month by month and I give one month's notice. Though I think actually it is one month's notice even now too in Dec.

If I want to move out from Flat A to Flat B,

I suppose it makes the most sense to contact the Flat B agent first, so I know I have somewhere to stay.

I wonder though, if, when I give notice regarding leaving Flat A, suppose I contact them on 15th Dec, would it be that I leave a month from contacting them i.e. on the 15th Jan? Or would they say ok you contacted us on 15th dec, you can't leave on a 15th 'cos it's monthly from when you started so you would leave on 3rd Feb 2014? Do different estate agents operate differently?

Do I have to contact the agent of flat A first, to tell them i'm thinking of moving out, and what their rule is? Or can I go straight ahead and contact agents of a Flat B and make an agreement with them?

I am on LHA so I want to make sure the LHA transfers smoothly.

I also have an option of moving in with my parents in between, but i've heard that it's easier to rent a flat if i'm already in a flat. And also i'd rather do it cleanly seamlessly without moving into my parents in between.
