What rights do you have to dictate how much you pay back?

The problem is that in this day and age people are willing to make up stories to try and escape their debts.

I remember one woman in my catalogue company days who had claimed her husband had just died 4 times and her mother had died 5 times in the space of 3 years. For the first she could have been a black widow but not worked out how the second one could have been true.

When you work in call centres you get toughened to sob stories because you hear one an hour and they all just become unbelievable. By writing and including evidence of your claims you may get a lot more sympathy

Having worked in a call-centre environment it sometimes felt every complainant was either terminally ill or disabled. Sadly it makes it very difficult for those who are genuine. NB I'm casting no aspersions on the OP here.
