Carpet fitter damaged carpet

We've just had a carpet fitted and after the fitter left I discovered a 3cm cut in the carpet, obviously done with fitter's blade. A representative from the carpet shop is coming tomorrow (fitter is employed by carpet shop) but I'd like to know to what extent are they required by law to provide redress. The damage is in an area of the room that it would be difficult, although not impossible, to disguise.
Could they be required to replace the whole carpet for which I paid ~£1,000.
I would be happy if they gave me some money towards purchasing a larger rug which would cover the damage.
Any advice appreciated, I am concerned they will try to wriggle out of this!
Thanks!

They will repair it by either sewing or latex adhesive to the rear.Be happy...;)0

Unless I'm mistaken this falls under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and as the goods are not of a 'satisfactory' quality and we reported it quickly we are well within our rights to ask for a full refund, replacement, or repair. Splendid!0

Is the damage on an edge or in the middle?
Carpet fitting involves cutting the carpet - they will repair it and if done properly you wont even notice. They will not change tge carpet, refund it or give you a rug unless they cant repair it properly - if its still visable you can negotiate something, but I doubt that will be the case so dont raise your hopes.0
