How long for DWP to sort out state pension

I notified DWP that my father had died 2 weeks ago. I wondered how long it takes for them to stop his state pension and attendance allowance and then notify my mother of any resulting change to her state pension.

Thanks

It was almost four months before I knew exactly what I would receive from DWP when I lost my dear OH three years ago - and this year, it took more than four months for my friend to have her entitlement sorted out.

I hope that these are exceptions to the rule. When I telephoned, to enquire when I would learn what my pension would be, I was always brushed off by comments such as "we are dealing with people with urgent needs" - which made me feel very dispirited and that my needs didn't matter.

I notified DWP immediately about my MIL and we put a stop on her bank account a couple of days after she passed so that payments couldn't be received from them, but I guess if your father's payments are going into a joint account with your mother, that's not possible....

As a temporary measure, would the entitled to website help work out what she should be entitled to? Have just tried to test drive it, and it is asking how much SRP you're getting so it might not do the job ...

  • Just to update :
DWP have written to my mother with her revised state pension - took less than 4 weeks.
    Rather impressed with them.....
