Ikea issues no sofa until after xmas now Please help!

We ordered a corner suite from Ikea until yesterday everything was fine. We were due for delivery tomorrow 11th between 9-11am and even got text messages yesterday to confirm.
Then at 8pm they called and left a voicemail to say they woudnt have the sofa now to deliver until the 28th of December. It was 36 hours before delivery we'd only sold our sofa yesterday morning so now we have nothing but the 2 seater we ironically ordered after the corner suite to match it. ( which was delivered in 10 days)

Ikea state it's made to order which I under stand but we ordered it on the 16th of November and it doesnt state it's made to order on their website either.

When I called them to enquire and ask why it cant be here before xmas I was informed it was impossible. However the 28th is infact the first day they are doing deliveries after xmas so they will have that sofa in their depot by xmas eve!

When they said they couldnt get the sofa to us I said ok what can you do for us to be told nothing and its my fault for selling the old sofas and that its in the details when i order than it might change. I have checked all documents several times and it does not say this on them in fact instead it reads that due to it being a made to order item it's a binding contract when they send you the order and delivery confirmation.

I have been told they will do nothing to help us. We are a family of 5 with a 2 seater sofa now until the 28th due to their error and we have a huge family who will be visiting for xmas hence the purchase of a huge corner suite ready for this. Had we of known it wouldnt be delivered in time we would never of ordered from IKEA.

I could do with some help ad advice with this as I'm due a call back from the manager in the call centre

Is there an alternative sofa that might be available earlier?

only the smaller sofas but they will not be what we ordered and will also not match the two seater we bought to match which they will not take back as it's been used. Also she said I cannot cancel my order now as it's a binding contract and they make the sofa's to order. :-(

Can they not loan you a sofa until delivery. Did you state that you wanted delivery by a certain date as a condition of sale?

They gave an estimated date of delivery on ordering of the 12th and then confirmed it would be the 11th within 72 hours of ordering it and then weve had text updates since then even up until 5pm yesterday ( just 3 hours before they called it off)

I've asked what they can do for us but not specifically asked for a loan sofa. To be honest if they could get us our sofa for the 24th I'd be happy but they insist they cannot.

They havent been good about it at all and seem to have the attitude of like it or lump it. Which isnt good especially from such a large company.

I'e just looked and if I ordered one right now I'd get it on the 8th Jan , how can they not supply something I ordered on 16th November until 11 days before something ordered on the 10th Dec??

They tend to get a bulk of orders in November - people ordering at the last minute (relative to the time it takes to make the item) to get it in time for Christmas Once those orders are out of the way they are far quieter and can produce the items more quickly.

Fantastic!! I managed to get in touch with a lovely guy who helped me out loads he's supplying us with a loan sofa as the one we ordered is actually the only sofa Ikea have especially made and said as it was such a large sofa he couldnt have us left without.

The loan sofa will be here on Friday and stay until the other one is delivered. I'm so relieved and my faith in Ikea is restored. If only the other staff I spoke to were as on the ball and helpful ad he was i wouldnt have such a headache right now.
