curtlyb you could feed the paper in straight, then turn the strips sideways and put them through again - voila!, cross-cut.0

The "mouth" of the shredder is only around 220mm (the width of a piece of A4 paper when portait, plus a little clearance) which would prevent you putting the strips in the other way round.
Also, it would not be possible to feed the strips back in once they've been cut because they get all entangled and what have you.
For the total sum of £9, if you're worried about fraud, I'd say go for itBut if you already have a Strip Cut (like me) and are happy with it, then don't.
FWIW I got my Rexel Stripcut for £2.97 in the Staples Clearance around six months back!

Thanks for this! Need a new one after my old one died a death without warning.
I have a Pavo laminator which is excellent, so I'm hoping the shredder will also be good value.0 -
Sounds great espresso. Hope they have some in my local Morrisons.
You'd have thought they would have checked out international translations of prospective names for the company before choosing one! :-) Can't see it going down well in spanish speaking countries! No wonder they don't have international offices there.
In Spanish, the word "turkey" doesn't have the same "loser" connotations as it does in English - slang very rarely translates directly. Companies do usually check out translations - I heard that the Nova had to be renamed before it could be marketed in Spain, which makes sense as "no va" means "doesn't go"
Ace thread, by the way. My own shredder packed up just the other day, so this is synchronicitous for me.0 -
I know that the slang meaning of Turkey does not translate to Spain... but would you call a company 'Turkey' anyway? Lion, Panther, Kingfisher ... good choices. Sloth, Slug, Toad, Warthog... probably not quite so good. I would say Turkey would belong to the latter category.
Anyway - managed to get the last Pavo shredder in my local Morrisons and it indeed does seem a quality buy. It was not marked up with a price at all... just sat all alone on the bottom shelf.0 -
Hi there, thanks for the above advice but i have bought 3 shredders in the last 3 yrs (strip cut) and all have been useless. They seem to overheat after short usage time or they jam after less than 5 mins use. Have others experienced this? can anyone recommend a good make as I have resorted to storing my stuff and putting in a garden incinarator when I have a bag full but not happy about this.0

Best one my friend found was M&S. Okay it cost more but she said it's the best one she's tried. After six months still as good as new

A straight cut shredder from Smiths has done me proud for a years or two, but I then compost the shreds which nicely aerates the grasscuttings making a great compost for my blackcurrant bushes!0

I got a Lervia one from Lidl for £14.99 a while back. It gets heavy use (I work from home), and it's done very well. Worth keeping an eye out for. Cross cut, also makes mincemeat of credit cards, and has a CD slot too.0
