Thanks Molerat, but I don't see the No Standing Charge box on CEC, am I missing something? Also, I think Ebico is definitely out since October, so I'll try the others but see a recent post about Solarplicity.0

Have you checked their site for current offerings? - the first in the list seems to suggest otherwise showing 12month fixed green energy tariff with zero standing charge!

Thanks to all for replies.
Yes, Ebico is spot on, don't think I was reading it correctly. Have switched to them, takes about 3 weeks and they were pretty helpful.0 -

I've just had our boiler removed which was the last thing in the house that used gas and so the plumber has capped the gas pipe. Since I currently pay in the region of £100/year for gas standing charges I thought that it'd make sense, therefore, to get in touch with our utilities company and get them to remove the gas from our account. How foolish was I, thinking that this should be a simple task?!
So, I've been told that I need to pay for:
Someone from the company to come and remove the gas meter, (about £95)
An "off the wall" charge, (unknown amount at present), which is the amount left outstanding for installation of the smart meter
Removal of the meterpoint by Cadent as the utility company apparently have to continue to pay Cadent even if no meter is in place, for the costs of transporting the gas to the property. This cost is unknown, (waiting for a call from Cadent), but apparently can be "quite expensive" <shudder> according to the utility company.
Are there any alternatives? I was wondering if I could just swap the gas to a no standing charge tariff and just not use any? Then, hopefully if it becomes easier to officially drop the gas in the future, (you'd hope it would with environmental concerns in mind), I can sort all this out later.
Would love to hear your thoughts please people...0 -
Alternatives ?
Yes , use an standing charge free gas tariff from a supplier such as Ebico. No gas used means a zero bill.0 -
Standing charges should all be exactly the same.
Never ceases to amaze me how these companies get away with charging different rates for exactly the same service!0
