I do love the way energy companies like to make them self's look good, Edf stated we will raise gas and electric prices from January by 3.9%, what they did not say as was the scrapping of the dual fuel discount until i received my letter today confirming this.
So make the company look like it is helping customers by a SMALL price rise but use other tactical ways of exploiting money from customers.
Nice way of keeping the media at bay.

Is it 70/90p a month or something ? I have seen a similar letter and it said that the accounts would be credited with an amount that would take them to the end of the fixed term contract (in this case April 2014).0

It might only be 70p or so but just think of the thousands of customers that's a lot of extra profit it is socially wrong. And a crafty way of gaining more profit.0

From the letter in question:To meet new regulation and to make tariffs simpler and easier to compare, we're making a few changes to some of the discounts we currently offer. In addition we're removing our dual fuel discount. Don't worry, you won't be out of pocket. We'll automatically give you the full value of any discount you'd normally receive, from when the changes start on 31st December 2013 through to when your current tariff ends.
It adds even more ammunition to making the effort to go with separate suppliers for gas and electricity, as it just isn't financially beneficial to give both businesses to the same supplier.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Its the way they've done it that annoys me. Making out its because of Ofgen's 'new guidelines' and a need to make things simpler.., like its done to be of benefit to customers.
They've lost me as a customer anyway. Don't like the attitude. And their prices are still not the lowest available for new fixed price tariffs.0 -

What OFGEM do and what is of benefit to customers are often two very, very different things.0 -
I am pleased you guys are seeing this the same as me. Government intervention yet again, muppets.
This is nearly a 1% increase on the average £1400 bill.0 -
Our most popular tariff – with around two-thirds of our customers
already enjoying the benefits of Standard (Variable)
– in January 2013,
66% of our customers were on our Standard (Variable) tariff for electricity
or gas (standard and economy-7 meters).
The above statement was from hehttp://www.edfenergy.com/products-services/for-your-home/documents/product-terms/standard-variable.pdfre dated 2013 so looks like they are quids in then.0 -

They are quids in, but they haven't lied.
The x% price rise reflects what customers on standard pay before, and what customers on standard pay after.0 -
There are no duel fuel discounts on any of their new products - that's clearly stated in the T&Cs and I (among others) was pointing this out on various posts when people were considering whether to switch & fix, or not.
The discount is being honoured for those on their existing tariffs. I'm on the April 2014 price promise and have got the rebate for the rest of the tariff in advance in one go instead of when applied to the bill.
I am free to change tariff at any point.0
