Removing UPVC window to get sofa in

We need to remove a upvc window to get in a sofa. I'm waiting for a window company to come back with a quote. Is there anyone else who could do this -joiner, general builder.? The window has one opening panel and then a fixed panel. It's adjoined by another window at a 30 degree angle. Not sure if its one big window or two units.

We used a self employed mobile window fitter to refit our windows after our builder made a complete hash of trying to fit ours into a new extension. Of course there are some builders who have the necessary skills but we were unfortunate to find one that hadn't. We were charged £200 for removing and refitting two full size sets of double French doors with side glazing.

Ask a local glass shop they will have the skills or know people who do and will probably be cheaper...

An independent glazier should be easily able to remove the beading and lift out the largest glazing panel, then replace the beading if it's been damaged by using a Don Carlos knife

If removing the largest glass panel still isn't enough, then removing the whole frame is something I'd be cautious about. You'd need to remove all the glass and then extract the large screws driven into the wall and rake out the silicon sealant around the frame. Heck of a mess.

As above - removing just one pane of glass is easy (and moderate DIY job with the right tools), removing the frame is a whole different matter. Are you certain you'll need to remove the window for the delivery? I was surprised who easily the delivery men got my sofa through a narrow doorway - the sofa was tightly shrink wrapped, and the feet were removed. They had it in in seconds.
  • Thanks I have spoken and ic. I have someone visiting today. The panes in our window are only 23 inches wide and 51 inches height. The height of the sofa is 40 inches, depth 40 inches and length 80 inches. Our doors seem to be a pretty standard height and width.
